I'm having a problem with quite a few of my CL ads posting. In my account it shows that the ads are active but when I go to the category where they should be listed about half of them are not showing up. None have been flagged and I didn't get a message that it was a duplicate (none are duplicates). Has anyone had this problem and if so, how do you work around it? Never had this problem with CL before.

I have exactly the problem you describe

Im not happy with my work around, but its the only thing Ive tried that seems to work

I delete the ad wait until it says I can repost, but instead of re-posting I create a new ad

there is another thread discussing a different craigs list problem, that suggests multiple craigs list user ids with different phone numbers and using different ip addresses

This is typical of Craigslist - customer service is non-existent. Try opening different accounts under different email addresses and different internet providers.

Last year they didn't have the ability to renew ads and you had to delete them and repost. The renew feature is great but looks like it doesn't always work. Guess to be safe you really need to delete and create a new ad. I tried reposting an old ad I used last year and that seemed to work. I also edited an ad that was not displaying and that didn't work either. Strange that most of the ads worked using the renew feature but about 40% didn't. I wonder if renewing is the same as reposting. Last year when I reposted I had to add any pictures again but this year the pictures are retained when you repost. Sounds like CL has a bug in their system but not sure they really have anyone you can contact about it.

My problems on craigs list have gotten worse...and I have learned a new term "Ghosting"

There is a lot of discussion on the Craigslist users forum about this, and I have learned there are a number of websites devoted to the problem. Most promising a solution for a fee

Heres what I have done (as Denise suggested)

new email address, new phone number, new craigs list account and a new ip address

So as far as craigslist is concerned, Im a whole new person...and Ive been able to get ads posted, but only one at a time...someone has taken to flagging my ads if I post more than one at a time...even if they are for completely different weeks and properties

Hi Ron -

Here is another hint - everytime I go out of town, I set up a new acct. (as long as you have direct phone service in your accommodations so you can receive the PP calls.) That seems to confuse the PP devils for awhile, and I can usually use the new Acct. after I go home for a few weeks with no problems.

Luckily, I haven't had that many problems thus far. However, each time I renew an ad I check to be sure that it has posted. What is ghosting? My ads haven't been flagged but I only have one for Orlando and that seems to be where the flagging problem is.

Ghosting is when you post your ad, get an email confirming it and wait the 15 minutes they say to wait...but the ad never shows up. Your account page will show it active, but its invisible...like a ghost Its different than flagging...Ive been flagged too,(in New Orleans) but the ad was up for a little while and I got an email telling me about the flag.....

Re. ghosting vs. flagging: Is ghosting the result of the same malicious acts as flagging? That is, a competitor somehow blocks your ad from even showing up?

No - it's the Craigslist computer blocking you for some reason.

Last year you would get a message if you tried to post the same ad twice that it was a duplicate and it wouldn't let you post it. Now I guess they just ghost it so just because it shows as active in your account doesn't mean that the ad is in fact posted. That's happened to me a few times but I think it was because I inadvertently posted the same ad twice. Bottom line is now you have to verify that all of your ads did in fact get posted after you renew them.
