I dove there a couple of times, on cruises, and the diving was spectacular.

We're looking for a place in 2010. It needs to be oceanfront, and we would rather not stay at an A/I.

Thanks!

Assuming you're going to exchange via RCI, try for Coral Princess. That's not AI at all. Also the Melia on the north end trades via RCI as "optional all inclusive". You can opt not to buy any AI, or you can buy a one day or 3 day AI bracelet once you are there. It's a rather isolated resort and you will not be able to even buy a coke a la carte if you don't opt for their AI. But there are one or two restaurants within walking distance, including two nice outdoor ones at Playa Azul to the south. The Melia on Coz has a pretty dinky kitchen, so don't plan on shopping for groceries and preparing much beyond cereal for breakfast and sandwiches & other light fare. I love Cozumel...it's mostly going the AI route, so you are smart to enter your exchange search asap for 2010.

El Cid La Ceiba is optional all-inclusive. We didn't buy the AI package when we stayed there and it was a good decision. I have mixed feelings about this resort that I've explained in my review.
I agree with you. We like to dive Cozumel and don't want to stay at an AI. So far we've tried the Coral Princess, El Cid, and Park Royal. The Park Royal is AI, but we got it for cheap by renting from bookit.com Of the non-AI's, we liked the Coral Princess best. I wrote a review about that one too.

Thanks for posting, Judy. I'd like to go to Coz in 2010 too and don't want AI. We own RHC but I think I'd like to exchange our Shawnee for either Coral Princess or El Cid.

Thanks again.
