Covid trending up at the old folks home

For the second time in three weeks one of us has been called for Covid testing because we came in contact with someone who had it. First it was me exposed at pony canasta — one player and I didn’t get it, but another woman was sick for two weeks after being infected by our fourth player.

Today it was Cliff exposed Friday during his volunteer bridge playing at the assisted living center. Also negative. We regularly hear that so-and-so is isolating, so it is definitely going around again at an accelerated rate.

We have signed up for the combined flu and Covid shot “event” in early November. I know we passed on at least one Covid shot, possibly two (we’ve each had three). Didn’t keep us from getting sick in March 2023, but hopefully was the reason we had mild symptoms. I had no reaction from first shot, felt horrible after second, and have no memory of issues after the third. Hoping it will be fine in November.

I haven’t had the covid booster yet this year. My daughter is against it. I am conflicted because, in a roll reversal, I will be reprimanded.

Quite happy to report that wearing a mask while traveling (or coming into contact with the sickly in general) is still a very-effective prophylactic.

Yes, IDK why I never thought of an N95 before for being on planes. Now 2 trips (4 flights total) and no colds or anything! So much better than not when in the past I would always get a cold it seemed - and I was quite a bit younger then too.

Report:
Covid again this September after travel!
2022- came home with my 1st case after 10 days in the Pacific NW followed by 8 in the Canadian Rockies (Jasper and Canmore) likely picked up enroute home from Calgary. DH fine.
2023- caught on a river cruise along with 10, including DH, of the 16 with us. Very mild case perhaps because we got boosted right before?
2024- caught either on a cruise or shore excursion. Like a head cold. 4 of 6 of us came down with it. DH fine.
Was up-to-date on vaccines through August 2023. Just missed the latest which became available while we were cruising.
