Anyone else notice this with the COVID tests? Especially the ones from Abbott? We have another brand too that is the same way. The ones that we got through the USPS seem to be okay, but the ones we get for free, with insurance, from the pharmacy have way too much packaging. It seems like such a waste. Yes, there are two tests in each kit, but there were also two in the ones from the USPS and the USPS ones were probabvly one fourth the size. What is with the overpackaging? Are they trying to make you think you are getting more for your $10-$15 you pay for the test (if you buy them). When we got our last round of 8, I stripped all the packaging and condensed everything down to a quart size zip top back.

Note sure about packaging, but one we used this week had 5 tests and 4 of everything else (swab, vial, cap.) Box said QTY4

I bought a 5-pack of tests while I was in the UK a few weeks ago (for just £9.80; single test boxes were only £2!) and it is about the same size box as one test from the US (I’ve had various size boxes over the last year or so but all from the US were about the same size as the one with 5 tests).

I suspect they have a large minimum size in order for retail shelf display purposes.

Over packaging is so common in everything in the grocery store, as they shrink what's inside, and you pay more for.

We can get free Abbott's at our library. Those are ONE to a box, the same size as the boxes that have two. Whatever... I prefer the Abbott's, but also like to throw some in my suitcase, and then the bulkiness is more than an inconvenience.

The ones I just received at the pharmacy in Albertsons grocery are 4 to a box, mfg by Seimens. My son and I got 8 each for getting the bivalent booster. Boxes are the same size as the USPS two-fers.

Also got two 10% discount grocery coupons.

I have 4 tests sitting in the back corner of a kitchen
wall cabinet, behind all my other medical supplies.

I haven't even looked at 'em since June.
I offered them to my SS, but he turned us down.

Covid is almost over, those test kits will probably gather dust.

Check with any local longterm care or senior living facilities - many are still routinely testing both staff and residents and will be happy to take them.

We have gone through quite a few tests the last few months. In September I caught a cold, I think it was while on a cruise. It turned in to a lingering cough that lasted 8 weeks. Then as things were easing up, I caught something different. It started with the cough getting significantly worse. Most common colds I have caught start out with sore throat, this was just an excessive cough. So much that I had strained abdominal muscles. My wife caught the same thing from me about 5 days later. We took multitudes of COVID tests and all came up negative along the way. We will probably each get a refill of 8 tests in December. We had some proctored eMed Abbot kits that we thought we might need for travel that we never ended up using. I think they are expired now.
