Really don't get it. What does tp have to do with avoiding or preventing the coronavirus virus issues? Human nature is so primitive sometimes. Herd mentality! Worst case scenario if the planet runs out of tp (not going to happen) use a washcloth.

Because then the crowds would be blocking the front of the warehouse. This way they get out of the way, and they’ll shop their way back to the front end. Just guessing.

I personally think Costco is feeding the media TP frenzy, to sell more TP. (Not really. Or maybe not...)

That's the usual reason for keeping the water and toilet paper (and milk) at the back of the warehouse--to get people to go to the back of the store. However, these are unusual circumstances. People could get hurt running like this, and frankly the Costco employees seem to be making fun of them. What about people who are not physically able to race to the back of the store while maneuvering a large cart? No toilet paper for them, no water?

In our store, considering its layout, Costco could set up a corral right by the front entrance in the large area where the shopping carts sit. Move the carts outside, then create express lanes at the front so that customers could buy one pack of toilet paper and one pack of water and pay right on the spot and leave with those purchases rather than continuing on into the store.

I really think that Costco is a very well run and well managed company, so it's surprising to me that they are allowing this kind of craziness to continue. It's not the running of the bulls, for crying out loud.

I don't think it's really about TP. Any more than $4.99 chickens is about selling chickens. Note that both are in the back of the store, and they move merchandise often to keep shoppers changing their traffic patterns so that they pass more 'impulse' merchandise. It's not a mistake that shoppers at Costco have to walk past jewelry, computers, TVs, appliances, clothes, booze, in order to get to the cheap TP and chickens. Then they conveniently put the food court and auto service out past the cash registers where they don't care if people loiter and spend even more money grazing and shopping for glasses. while their tires are mounted.

It's a formula, BUT IT WORKS!
