Coronavirus: How we decide the risks we’re willing to take to venture out
Social lives will be carefully built around “risk reduction,” rather than the strict and absolute safety of sheltering

Mike Rowe was just talking about that last night on the Rubin show. Eventually we all have to get back out there.

Remember, a lot of people have been going out everyday. I have been out everyday since this lockdown. I had to work everyday during the week and grocery shop on the Saturday. Sunday we usually do takeout. There were many people just like me. Sounds like a majority on TUG have been staying home for the most part. I didn’t have that option.

This isn’t a right or wrong statement, just a statement that many people have been out.

I think most Tuggers, like me and my DH, have had the luxury of staying home for the past two months. So for those of us who have been home, I suspect the risk of going out seems higher than for those who have already been venturing out. My DH and I have taken the risk of going out for grocery shopping and medicines and we have allowed our house cleaner to visit. But other than that, we have been home. I am eager to start venturing out when the government allows it. Next week, restaurants are opening in my area. We will follow safe guidelines to go out to eat at our country club. We need to support them so they survive.

The Creator hasn't slowed me down at all, except what his word and my conscience allows.

I think we probably would have been chomping at the bit to get out and socialize, but for us, being over 70, and with compromised immune systems, blood disease, heart and lung issues, we simply have too many risks to ignore. I sure as Hell don't feel expendable, so NOW, we will hope and pray that those we come into contact with continue to practice safe practices. Wash those hands. No hugs, Elbow bumps e=instead of handshakes. Maintain your space.

WE WILL THANK YOU! And join you when treatment/vaccine becomes available.

Our good friends and neighbors who are both in their 70s and he has heart and lung issues, have both been going out grocery shopping. He is also back playing golf with a men's group at a course in the area. We are definitely more cautious than both of them. The wife just called me, hoping that we could get together very soon and I told her that nothing has changed in our taking precaution in not being around people. We are still doing all our meals at home, out to golf and home.

Last evening, the membership marketing person at our country club called us and asked if we would be willing to have a potential new member play a round of golf with us today. She knows that we are strong advocates for our country club and we told her that we would be OK but she needed to let the couple know that we needed everyone to adhere to strict social distancing. He played with us today, his wife was a rider, and we had a good time. They were very respectful of social distancing and we were glad we did it. So maybe we are letting our guards down a little because we had refused to play with anyone since SIP in mid-March.
