I own a week at Celebrity Resort World in Orlando with Interval. They are asking me to convert to RCI Points but the conversion cost is $3,995. Based on the feedback on this board, it doesn't sound like a good deal. The Customer Service Rep gave me some points cost that I thought are too good to be true. Here are some examples:

Airfare - $39 fee & 4000 RCI pt for $250 credit
Cruise - 40,000 points
Hotels - $39 fee & worst case 4000 pt/night but many are 1000 pt/night
All Inclusive Resort Fee - Double the points charged.

Has anyone heard of this or am I being duped?

"Points Partners" Is Legit, But Not Necessarily A Good Deal.

Using RCI Points for things other than timeshare reservations comes under the heading of RCI Points Partners -- Disney tickets, air fare, nightly hotel stays, etc.

Using timeshare points to get those things is more costly than using money to get them. But if you're finished vacationing for the year & have paid for points left over, then using the points for extra stuff like that might make more sense than letting the points expire unused. (Maybe, maybe not. It depends.)

However that may be, RCI recently announced new restrictions that apply to Points Partners -- just something to keep in mind before taking the plunge.

In any case, taking the plunge resale beats the sox off paying big bux for full freight conversion.

Buy timeshares (& timeshare points) resale.

Save thousands.

Even better, lease a points timeshare -- 3 years, RTU, renewable. That is what we would have done instead of buying a dinky eBay points timeshare if we had known about it at the time. Live & learn, eh ?

Here is a post from someone who just bought their first TS. thread She bought it after it had been converted ( conversion fee $3000) for $999. So the seller paid $3000 to convert it and then had to sell for $1000. It doesn't look like paying to convert a TS to RCI points makes any sense.

If you want RCI points, you'd be much better off selling your current TS and buying one which is already converted ( the 3 year lease may also be a good idea) You'd likely save $3000 or more doing that than paying to convert.

Good Luck and Welcome to TUG

PS there are a handful of resort which charge a reasonable fee to convert to RCI points <$400. Sheraton's Vistana resort in Orlando & Wapato point in Washington state are 2 which I know of. BUT it pretty easy to buy a week which is already converted to RCI points and not worry about how much the resort wants to convert the week to RCI points.

I struggled with this when I decided to convert, I paid $2,995.00. I went ahead after running the numbers to purchase another unit + yearly fees/taxes. I wanted to keep the week I own due to the highest point value at the resort and di not want to sell it and have to buy something all over again for simplicity reasons. Alan is very correct that it does not pay to use your points for anything other than a resort stay. I have used them for Disney tickets, car rental (way too many points for this). In a pinch it is nice to have the flexability to use them on other items. It just was an easier way for me and I received 12-months of 0.00% interest to pay it off.
