There's an interesting article on timeshares in the latest edition of Consumer Reports. In a nutshell, it says that time sharing is beginning to attract affluent owners who tend to be younger than owners who have purchased in the past. The article also claims that the concept offers much more flexibility than it has in the past and that it offers a good long term investment in vacationing as long as people don't buy in and expect their weeks to appreciate in value.

I agreed with pretty much everything in the article, but was still surprised at how favorable to time sharing it was given all the bad press and experiences out there already.

I learned from my parents' experience in buying vacation property in FL ... as snowbirds (and my father understood real estate values due to 30+ years as tax assessor) ... brought twice (condo and single family house) and LOST money on both deals.

I learned from my sister's in-laws who took me with them to an Owner's Update with a major developer where a small "upgrade" was costing them $20K ... and just kept saying to myself, "That is way too much. There has to be a cheaper way." Took 100+ miles riding home in the rear of the family van to lock onto the idea of resale via eBay .. the place to buy ANYTHING used!

As I knew nothing about timeshares, I brought RESALE a FIXED WEEK where I wanted to use and kept reading on Wyndham points ... and locked onto a GREAT DEAL. Both in the immediate area I wanted to stay at during the winter.

OP, I'm guessing you're talking about the article we discussed here.
