I have a confirmed Marriott-Marriott trade for Aug 2012. The original week expires Aug. 19, 2012. I traded into the Imperial Palms in Orlando with the purpose of going to Universal. After researching, I prefer to stay on-site in Universal instead.

I know if I cancel the week I'll get a replacement week. I tried to do a topic search but the search is not working for me now (gives me an error.)

1. Will this be a Marriott replacement week? (Marriott preference)

2. When I make a trade with the replacement week I'll have to pay an exchange fee regardless of Marriott - Marriott trade or otherwise?

3. I've read that the replacement week will expire one year from when I cancel - is that correct?
So if I cancel today, the replacement week expires 11/11/2012?
Or will it still expire on the original week's expiration date of Aug 19, 2012?

Thanks so much!

I am not sure about the Marriott preference.

However, since the replacement week is given to you by Interval, you do
pay their exchange fee, even if it is for a Marriott.

The expiration date is one year from the time you cancel if you cancel
more than 60 days in advance. At least that is what I was told when I
had to cancel a confirmed exchange.

Also, the replacement week will be whatever you deposited, such as studio,
one bedroom, etc. When the replacement week is deposited in your acct. you
can see more than studios, depending upon the strength of your trade.

The replacement week does not get the marriott preference and you must pay the normal (no marriott discount) exchange fee.

A much better option IMO is to do a retrade. You just find another week that you want and call II. They will make the new trade with another Marriott exchange fee. If you aren't sure about your next trip or the week isn't on line you are out of luck using this method.

When trying to get info from II on repalcement weeks, I was given confusing information depending on the agent. I was told that yes, to re-trade is the best option; however, if you are trying to retrade into a time/resort that has a waiting list, that option will not work as all that will be available will pretty much be leftovers after all requests have been filled. I was also told that if your original week was a Marriott, you do not loose your Marriott priority with respect to your request, only as far as what you pay for the replacement trade. So, after calling multiple times per day for about a month, I decided to place a request. So far, no luck either way!

thanks for the replies!!

I think it's clearer now!

I was trying to do a retrade to a later week (8/17 or 8/19) within Imperial Palms and the II rep was having a problem because the original week expires 8/19 so she said she had to get a supervisor's approval. That's when she told me that because I'm not a DC member it'll cost me $129 to change my current week to the following week (8/17 or 8/19) She said if I wanted to retrade within the current week (8/10, 8/11) then it would be free. But an earlier check-in won't work for me.

When I was searching with the original week, the 8/17 check-in dates didn't come up but when I was searching with another week in my account, the later check-in dates showed up which worked better for my family that's why I wanted to do a retrade.

I seemed to remember doing a trade where I was able to see weeks with check-out dates beyond the expiration - as long as the check-in was before the expiration. The II rep explained that the beginning of a "week" is thurs - mon check in so I guess because my week expired on sun 8/19, it didn't allow me to see weeks that started the previous thurs 8/16! The 8/17 check in would have been perfect for me.

Thanks everyone! I'll have to re-think which way I want to go on this...
