I have a confirmed trip to [details deleted.] My husband and I were planning on a short trip for our anniversary. Unfortunately, family events have changed and we cannot go. I know this is a sold out week (due to school being our in NJ). Just wondering if renting a confirmed DVC reseration is worth it or should I just cancel it? Any advice on how to rent, costs, etc is welcome.

Can you cancel without penalty (not borrowed points that you might lose if you don’t use). DVC Resale market rental page says they pay you $16 per point for Vero Beach (not sure if you have to pay income tax on it). I personally wouldn’t go thru the bother although they do the work for you. I always use all my points and very rarely have any to bank.....but we go four times a year, DVC store rentals will also rent them for you. Both are ligitimate companies. I would never do it via Facebook....I don’t trust strangers. But that is just me. Sorry you had to cancel.

I think you have to cancel more than 30 days from the 1st day of the rental period to have points returned. I always cancel more than 30 days, so I have not tested this rule.

Whether it is worth it to rent out depends on your situation. You can get your points back, but what is the expiration date on the points? Do you have vacation time available so that you can use the points for a different vacation? Only you can know that.

If you want to rent it out, David's Rentals can handle it for you. They have been around for many years.

If you are past your banking deadline......rent the reservation out/points (unless you can rebook and your dates are available)

I agree with @AnnaS . If you're within your banking deadline, AND these are current UY points, cancel and bank the points. If your banking deadline has passed, OR these are banked or borrowed points (meaning they can't be banked), and you can't use them before the end of your UY, renting the confirmed reservation will be your only way to get value from the points. You can post it for rent with any of the rental brokers, who will deal with the guests for you, or you can post it yourself on Redweek, etc.

I would give these guys a call and just ask them what to do. The owner is really helpful and can give you good advice.

I rented out a confirmed reservation for 3 days in a studio at SS in April. We were going on a cruise, and I had leftover points that were going to expire. Just for the heck of it I put them up for rent not expecting anything, but they rented in less than a week. Worked for us. Just used our Marriott points to stay near the airport and changed our plane reservations.

I rented a few nights at AKL in Jambo house, a studio with no view, and I was able to get $17.50 per point, rented through Redweek. It rented overnight. But Vero is going to be tough to rent for a good amount of cash, so I would reserve something at any Disney resort in Orlando.
