On Sept. 26 I booked a reservation at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel for a 2BR for 5 nights between Christmas and New Year's. I received a confirmation from RCI immediately.

In November I purchased 4 non-refundable air tickets to Steamboat totaling $1500.

On December 6, I received a voicemail message from RCI telling me that this confirmation was made in error. The only explanation they could give was that they had booked nights which they never had in the first place.

I called back. I was offered a 1BR in Steamboat, but that simply won't work for 4 people that need 4 separate beds. I told them I would consider other ski resorts in Colorado or Utah if need be, however what about the money I lose on the airfare?

I've called several times the past two days, but can never speak with the "department that is handling this". I've been told I would get a call back, but so far nothing.

What is going on here?
What is my recourse?

Seriously,

Valtiemann,

If you did actually purchase those "non-refundable" plane tickets through Cendant, I'd scream bloody murder till I got a refund.

Valtiemann,

Unforeseen problems can occur at any resort. When a resort reports that it will not be able to accommodate our confirmed guest, RCI assigns that member's account to an Exchange Specialist. That member's vacation is then given top priority, and every effort is made to locate a comparable alternative.

RCI's Exchange Specialists are given many tools with which to resolve problems. Please be assured that they are specifically in charge of helping to find you a vacation. I've mentioned in this forum before that I used to work in this capacity myself, and this group is extremely determined and creative.

Please do as JeffV recommends. Send an e-mail to feedback@rci.com and enter TUG in the subject line. The Communications Team can check with the specialist assigned to your file for an update.
