We are using gmail thru MS Outlook. Every once in awhile, a pop up appears indicating that an email was placed in the junk email folder. When I go the junk email folder, there is nothing there.

I have tried signing up for alerts from Airtran and Spirit, but am not receiving any of their alerts, so I suspect that is what is being sent to the junk email folder. Unfortunately, it appears that the emails are being deleted immediately instead of actually going into the junk email folder. How can I stop this from happening? I don't want emails NOT to go to the junk email folder, just want to be able to view what is being placed there to make a determination on whether I want to allow the email to come thru.

Sure hope this message makes sense and someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I have had the same thing happen. I am not on the right machine now to test it, but I think I know the answer. The gmail account is created as a secondary, even if you have no primary. You need to go to the gmail folders and find that junk mail folder, not the main junk mail. You should see it there.

Did that make sense?

nothing is deleted on gmail. Use the web interface, and you should be able to find everything. gmail has a good spam filter, but they will delete spam after 30 days. You can whitelist stuff, etc, in the gmail spam folder using the web interface if they marked things as spam accidentally. I've never had that problem with gmail.

I have no idea what outlook is doing with things it marks as spam. You will need to check your outlook settings for that account. The pop-up sounds like it's coming from outlook and it has nothing to do with gmail.
