Since compliance with the By-Laws is such a topic of the day, I have a question:

Does anyone have any insight on why the IOA should be reimbursing KBV BoD members for the travel expenses of a companion?

It is understandable that the IOA would be reimbursing the legitimate expenses of BoD members to attend the annual meeting - as authorized under the by-laws. But I struggle to understand why the BoD member would be reimbursed for expenses of a travel companion. Does that policy comport with the applicable provisions of the by-laws, which makes no provision for the expenses of a non-BoD member?

Which if I am understand how that policy has been applied in the past, literally can be any person - spouse, domestic partner, child, friend, etc.

As I have heard, this has been the normal situation that if you need to come to the island, then your wife should be able to accompany you. I would think that you must turn in your airline tickets receipt and car rental receipt to get paid back.

I have no insight on "why." A "new" travel policy was adopted at the May board meeting. I will be interested to see if it gets posted along with the minutes when the minutes get posted.

It seems to me that if the Association is paying for non-Director travel, that is not reimbursement, but compensation or a gift.
