I hope the NCAA will give these college athletic programs an extra year to showcase their programs because of COVID-19..

If one has not already red shirted then they could get an extra year of eligibility. But if they graduate or after their 4th year in school then they may get reduced money or cut. Its a balancing act based on scholarship limits and rosters spots. Freshmen in 2021 need spots on a team as well.

On the NCAA, it's hard to both be the sherriff *and* the Chamber of Commerce in the same town. It's really no surprise that they tend to fulfill both roles poorly.
Oklahoma and Georgia started the transition of the NCAA from sheriff to door greeter.....

My daughter is a collegiate athlete (entering sophomore year), and since her sport is a spring sport, she was able to red shirt last year. For next year, NAIA announced the roster size is being increased, and I believe NCAA took similar actions. Her school also decided to extend her scholarship to a fifth year due to being red shirted, but that is definitely a school decision -- I don't think all students on scholarship at other schools will be able to count on extensions.

Kurt, your point makes me curious - do you know if NAIA and/or NCAA increased the allowable scholarships for spring sports as well?

That is a good question, but I am not sure. In my daughter's case, I do know that the NAIA required them to add I believe 6 roster spots for softball due to allowing players to red shirt last year.
