If anyone has details about the resort, please post. I have reservations next week and am anxious to know if the resort was spared. We have friends and relatives in the Tampa area and in the Villages who are all fine but some without internet and power (but cell service good, thankfully). It sounds like a lot of damage across the state was also caused by widespread tornados.

The resort phone number currently goes to a recording saying all reservations thru tomorrow the 11th are cancelled. The local weather broadcase below reports about a 5.5 foot peak surge. I am not sure how high above sea level the resort grounds are. Ian trashed the grounds but the elevated clubhouse, pool and accomodations buildings were spared - but that was a reported 15 foot surge.

The beach was closed after Helene and you would have to believe it is worse now.

Concern about 2.5 feet of water at Hyatt regency and water at coconut road at spring creek. Other spots are not close and do not affect coconut cove.
Power has been off and on in communities in the area.

I wonder if they are doing things this time like they did with Ian in 2022. They would keep pushing the dates. This announcement on the World of Hyatt website is mainly for cash paying guests. They don't want them all cancelling enmasse. So they dribble dates out there. They probably don't really have any idea when they may reopen. I wouldn't be surprised if they push that 14th date also.

I am worried about the same thing. With a reservation next week, it is hard to know at this point. And the lower pools and lazy river were damaged last time and took a long time to fix. It all depends on if water got to them, and how much.

I know it is a difficult situation for them onsite without power - i just wish i had information and that booking would be flexible with us. One "unique" feature of HRC is that we have to pay a fee to cancel (in addition to losing your booking fee).

I called HRC and they said the resort should be open Monday and the phone should work. They are not waiving cancellation fees, but if the date gets pushed back they will cancel the reservation and there will be no fee.

We just got a message from our clubhouse/ restaurant, pro shop that they are not opening today as planned as they have no power.
the homes have power, but not the clubhouse. So that is probably the big issue.

Plus the points come back as restricted which makes them virtually useless for me since my use years ends in about 6 weeks.

Reopening is officially pushed back a day. The lack of communication is unusual and not at all my previous experience with Hyatt. When this happened before with Irma they would they make a decision a few days ahead with the opening date - which is vital for anyone traveling.

Anyone checking in today would really be hosed. I called HRC and they are just saying to wait.

The resort homepage has not been updated since Friday. This is from the Hyatt website. It was updated since earlier this morning, so this morning it said the resort would be open today.

PLEASE NOTE: Hyatt Vacation Club at Coconut Cove has suspended normal hotel operations due to effects of Hurricane Milton and is expected to resume normal hotel operations on October 15, 2024. Cancellation fees are waived for stays from now through October 14, 2024. Any deposits and prepayments for cancelled stays on these dates, including prepaid rates, will be refunded. Thank you for your understanding. If you have questions, please contact us.

The Resort Alert posted on my reservation is open ended. Was posted on Oct 10 and hasn't been changed.
(see below).
After a call, they said it should be open by Wednesday.

I wonder what the status of amenities will be when it does reopen.
From a satellite image after Milton, it looks like the upper pool was not affected (all blue in the photo,)
And the lower pool with the walk in entry also looks not affected as it was all blue in the photo.
The other lower pool was not blue, more of a moderate brown, not nearly as dark as for Ian. So I would guess some storm surge.
The lazy river was dark brown, like it was after Ian.

Right now I'm leaning to simply not going.

That is odd. Both lower pools and the lazy river are on the same level ... seems they would all be the same.

Do you mind sharing the url of the satellite images?

I am leaning towards bailing also. I will have LCUP points from 2 cancellations. Yuck.

Perhaps it was more damage to pumps and the one pool was able to be restarted sooner than the other? Proximity to the pond may have also played a role in pool contamination.

This is actually areal imagery collected by NOAA aircraft and not satellite photos.

What the heck is the new building in the image? I heard about a sales center a while back, it does not look like the other buildings.

It is the new sales center. I guess they lost the lease or something on the other one.

The old sales center was on the land that was sold. I did not think about the new building being "inside" the road loop - but I suspect everything outside that loop was sold starting past building 4.

It is going to be interesting to see them try and sell that location while the MFs are going thru the roof due the the issues in the lawsuit.

I love this resort and hate to see it suffer between the hurricanes and the issues in the lawsuit.

The resort page is finally updated.

IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE Oct. 15, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.:

Power has been restored to Hyatt Vacation Club at Coconut Cove following Hurricane Milton. The management team continues to assess the property for damage, and associates are preparing the property for re-opening to begin accepting arrivals on Wednesday, October 16.

Those arriving should expect limited amenities as associates continue to return to normal operating status.

I did call the resort, and only the upper lap pool is available. There was no estimate at this point on when the lower pools and lazy river will be available.

I bet the resort staff is tired of this happening between Ian and now this. I have rebooked for Dec, i would like to think that is plenty of time to get everything back up unless they have lost pumps again (and elevator motors).

I think it was Ian, not Irma.

I don't know how or where the pool pumps are installed, but I would have thought they would have raised them somehow after they were taken out before.
