I couldn't sleep last night so I pulled out the 2008 Club Member Guide. There was a interesting part under "Reference" pg 172. It would suggest that it is not authorized to rent a confirm reservation. You can give a confirm reservation to someone for the purpose of a personal vacation but not rent it to them. (regardless if you make money or just covering your MF).

The actual quote is "The use of membership or a confirmed reservation for commercial purposes, including rental, or for any purposes other than the personal vacation use by the Member or their authorized guest, is expressly prohibited."

what you do you think?

My personal feeling would be that HGVC doesn't want people to make a business of renting out TSs, therefore the clause. BUT for an average owner renting a week or two a year, I doubt you'd every have a problem.

I concur with Bill.
While renting is technically a no-no, what they are primarily concerned about are members who run a rental business. There is no way HGVC will even know that your "guest" is a renter, unless he announces himself as such. Simply ask him to use the status of a "guest."
