Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but a title search on "Donatello" turns up nothing.

I was just looking at locations in California and saw Club Donatello (at the Donatello hotel, convenient to the theatre district).

Seems that it is bookable by calling, 276 days out (implying regular HGVC), but a 7-night minimum (@5250 points, which is like a bHC number). The HGVC site calls it an "EXTERNAL EXCHANGE RESORT."

Is this new, or did I miss something? A week won't work for us, but I'd even book a 3-day min some times for one night when we have events in SF.

Cheers.

I booked it through Bluegreen direct exchange a few years ago not sure if we still can. I think it could be a Shell timeshare?

The Donatello Hotel building is shared by 2 timeshares - Club Donatello and Shell Vacations Club. Each has its own decor and policies. Both are managed by Wyndham. The Hilton affiliation is with Club Donatello.

It’s been available through Hilton for quite some time.

SVC has an exchange with BlueGreen which allows BlueGreen members to book the SVC portion but I expect that to end at the end of the contract (no idea when that is).

If you like the property it is often available in hotel booking sites. The rooms are huge for an SF hotel.

For paid stays we'd likely use Hyatt for status. It was interesting as a "free" option since we currently have too many points until we (knock on wood) sell our Flamingo holdings :)

With weekend evening events coming up, it would have been a good free stay if it didn't require a week.

Cheers.

Club Donatello used to be bookable by the day (3 day minimum, same as other HGVC locations). And IIRC, it even used to be bookable online via the HGVC site. That seems to have changed a few years ago. No idea why.

Probably for the same reason the FA Cabo now charges mandatory AI at a high price. They saw the relationship was unprofitable and so they tightened the terms. Perhaps they thought they could get HGV members to go to presentations and buy. We stayed twice at FA Cabo and declined the presentations. However we paid for an upgrade the first time we visited and that included AI so they must have made some money from our visit.

FWIW if you look at FA Cabo on HGV site, there is a LOT of availability - even close in. Seems that HGV members are voting with their feet on this policy change because it was always heavily booked prior to the mandatory AI.

Club Donatello is via SFX exchange, so you have to call in, AFAIK. (Not sure if you can get into it via RCI, I'm guessing not). I *think* they only have studios though.

It's been "listed/affiliated" for at least 2 years, maybe slightly longer. I forget the timeframe that Hilton announced SFX-exchanges (vs. using SFX separately).

Thanks all. Not sure how I didn''t notice this before. So, if I were to call, I'm guessing it wouldn't be as simple as using some HGVC points for this with the same rules as other bookings, but there would be additional rules/fees. Anyway, a week's not gonna work so more of an academic question.

Cheers.

I have had an RCI Points OGS recently match, but the timing didn’t work. All studios/hotel rooms as far as I know, but some sleep 4 people.

I stayed there over a July 4th weekend a few year ago using HGVC points for a 3-night stay. It was in the Club Donatello portion of the property and I was very UNIMPRESSED. The rooms, although large, were dated, old furniture and in mediocre condition. Plus, they charged a daily "resort" fee that covered the cost of the "complementary" coffee, daily newspaper, and a very small, old dirty hot tub near the workout room. Yuk!

Not worth it and I won't return.

The units have been completely renovated within the last year, and its a huge positive difference! They did an amazing job!

Do you know where we can find pictures of the recently updated rooms? I may now add Club Donatello as a possible destination to visit.

Wow, that is a substantial improvement!

It sure is a huge improvement!! Its also in an amazing location one block off Union Square. One of my favorite features is the club lounge and roof top garden on the top floor.

Funny for me to read about Club Donatello as that was the first timeshare resort we bought and stayed at. We are not very SF people as we live in Cupertino only 40 miles away. We used to put it into RCI and the trading power was so good we actually traded for a 3 bedroom in Hawaii. We kept it as weeks and the trade value sunk in RCI to the same value as any other studio. We have felt ripped off with this one for years now.
