I have a 3/2 unit on hold for July, 2009. Planning on traveling w/ my two youngest children, (ages 14 and 12). I've read the reviews...but most didn't go into detail as to the room arrangement---I'm guessing 3/2 is one bed and a pullout couch? Some reviews mentioned mini fridges & microwaves in unit? We stayed at Nob Hill Inn last year (sleeps 2 unit), and I think the Donatello units are larger, no? I've been searching for SF for months now....and with both children asking to come along, I figure this is the best exchange I will get. Thoughts?

We stayed in the Donatello about 4 yrs ago. We had a room with a bed and a pull out sofa. There was a mini fridge, fully stocked with overpriced items for you to use and pay for. We simply removed them from the fridge and put the stuff we wanted in it. There was no micro, coffee pot, toaster etc. I vaguely recall a central room with coffee and....but I can't remember if it was free or not. But the room was fairly spacious and the Donatello location is excellent for sightseeing, etc. I'd go back. Just consider it a hotel room...not the timeshare accomodations you are accustomed to.

I believe that the Shell units have the mini kitchens with tiny microwave and sink. The others do not. They have a small refrigerator and I think a coffee pot. The last time we stayed there the coffee and tea on the top floor lounge was complimentary. The rooms are very large for San Francisco, there is AC and a great hot tub also.

Thanks for the info. I know the rooms are basically "hotel units"....just figured they'd be larger than the rooms at Nob Hill Inn. NHI was nice, great locations....but it will be nice to have a mini fridge, (and maybe a microwave?). Plus the fact that both of my children can go, (sleeps 3), will make this a memorable trip. I remember passing the Donatello as we walked toward Union Square, so I know the location is excellent. I am just so excited to be returning to San Francisco!

We have only been there on Shell exchanges and at least those rooms have a microwave and mini-fridge. You three should be fine in the room since you are family. I definitely would not recommend it for non-family members. Spacious for a central SF hotel room. We love SF, we go at least twice a year. We're already booked for long weekends in November 2008 and March 2009.

Also, there is no longer a hot tub on the property.

I have been to both. Nob Hill has rooms of different sizes - everyone is kind of different there.

Donatello is smaller than some rooms in Nob Hill but is bigger than some as well. Over all, the room is like 350 Sq ft, with a king bed and a L-shaped software which is also a pull out bed.

The room will be tight for 3 adults (your kids of 12 and 14 can be your size, if not bigger).

I stayed at the non Shell section. It has a micro wave, a bar size fridge and a coffee pot in the bathroom.

Location wise, Donatello is better. There are stores, fast food and Starbuck down the street. The neighbour at Nob Hill is too steep that you must either walk up or down hill all the time.

We were there in June and they were replacing the hot tub, which is in the exercise area on the top floor. It was almost done and looked like it was going to be some modern flashy thing. Did it not get done?

Call the Donatello directly and ask. I know the Shell units were refurnished about 18 or so months ago. Very nice! One addition was a hide-a-bed sofa which we didn't discover until mid-week.

The Club Donatello units have different decor than the Shell units (as of December 2007). I don't remember for sure about the hide-a-bed there. We didn't need it so I don't recall checking.

Call the Donatello. The staff there is always first class.

Even when we stay at another timeshare in SF we usually stop in at the Donatello just to say "Hi!"
