We are going to be staying at Club Cala de Palmas in a couple weeks. I would appreciate any advice on room requesting*, local restaurants, updated reviews on resort (most recent on TUG review database is from Feb 2007). Many older reviews mentioned the local beach has few amenities. Should I bring our own beach chairs? Buy beach chairs locally or pack our collapsible ones? Does the resort provide beach towels?

The certificate says it is a full kitchen w/stove, so I'll be cooking, at least breakfasts. Advice on where to go shopping en route to TS? I see a Costco is about 20 minutes away in Caguas, so perhaps we'll stop there. But local places, especially for produce, woudl be appreciated. We really like to go to local farmers markets, if there is anything like that.

* Re room requests, is there a specific unit or building we should request or avoid, timing of call, do they honor such requests?

Thanks!

I'm an owner at Club Cala. We like to stay harborfront as the yachts are docked right at your door. The pool units are also popular.

Club Cala is located in the planned resort community of Palmas del Mar. There are over 14 restaurants in the community and a Sheraton Four Points hotel with casino. Most of the resort community consists of whole-ownership condos. The amenities are spread out - golf, tennis, beach access, horseback riding, restaurants, so we usually rent a golf cart to get around.

There is a shopping plaza with a small grocery store which usually sufficies for my needs. Club Cala also a provides a grocery shopping service for you. Our favorite restaurant is Chez Daniel at the marina.

At the beach there are lounge chairs and a beach bar/restaurant. The beach is closer to the hotel than Club Cala and with the golf cart you can park right on the beach.

Any other questions, just ask!

Do you need a golf cart if you are already renting a car? I.e. is there parking near the beach and other amenities for cars or just carts?

You can walk to the beach, but it is a lenghty walk. You can take the shuttle or park at the Sheraton and walk thru the hotel to the beach. Like Harborside at Atlantis, the units are not on the beach, but on the harbor.

We're back from Puerto Rico. We had a lovely time. Club Cala is a nice place to stay if you want to be on the eastern side of the island, but not in San Juan. You can read more about it in my Trip Report and TUG Review. Thanks for your advice.
