If and when we find a buyer for our deeded fixed week in Whistler, we would like to use a reputable closing service to handle the transfer of deed and other details of the sale.

When I considered selling our property a few years ago, I intended to use the Whiski Jack legal department. Even though the fees seemed high, I knew they were well acquainted with their own properties. That company is no longer managing those timeshares, so I am not sure who to use now.

JRA Services or Express Timeshare Closings were listed in an "sticky" article. Are both companies still considered reputable, and are they the best ones to use for handling the sale of a property in Canada?

Any advice will be welcome.

There is a lady up there who is very knowledgable in that resort and the closing process and is who our company has used in the past for these closings.

Dorothy Clarkstone who is with BC Notary Law Firm http://www.notaries.bc.ca is who we recommend.

Not sure of her fees any more, but Rich M might shed some light when he sees this post.

Always check with your resort management group or HOA and ask for a referral. Then contact Dorothy and obtain a second quote. Email at dorothy@dclarkstone.ca or by phone at (250) 723-9747. With solicitor/notary based transactions, the costs can very by a substantial amount.

Dorothy is the notary I normally recommend. I've always found her to be the best price and easiest to work with on timeshare closings.. However, her charges can vary by resort, often depending on the difficulty of the transaction. Dorothy will handle both the buyer and seller sides of the transaction (some Canadian solicitors and notaries insist on having two firms involved- one representing the buyer and one the seller)..

Simply contact her and provide her with the base information for your closing including the sale price and she can give you a quote.

Congrats on your sale and good luck with your closing!

I wish I could accept congratulation on our sale, but we are not there yet. I just want to gather as much information as I can about the process before listing our week for sale.

The management of our Whiski Jack property has been taken over by Trading Places International. When I asked about resales, the TPI representative gave me the phone number for SellmytimeshareNow. That company, however, has some negative reviews on TUG, and their prices for similar properties appear to be inflated based on what I have been reading here.

In today's market, I am not expecting a high sale price, so I want to keep closing costs at a reasonable level. My main goal is to find someone who will transfer the deed accurately and take care of other details as smoothly as possible once I do find an actual buyer.

I will contact Dorothy for more information about her service.

Is there anything else I need to know or ask as I proceed with this hoped for sale?

Good to know TPI is still promoting upfront fees.. Guess they still have their collective heads buried somewhere!
