Yes, as of the update last night, 50 restaurants have closed here, most on Oahu, where I live. Things are getting pretty dire here with our economy. It's very sad to see some of these go. The one thing this list does not address is the restaurants that are closed temporarily during the stay at home order. Many are offering take-out, some are doing marketplace where you can purchase meal kits or item like nice steaks to cook at home, and others are just in limbo. For example, Ruth's Chris at Restaurant Row is open for take out (per mandates) but for this round of Oahu closures, the Waikiki location decided not to open until they are allowed to do sit-down service. A lot of places in Waikiki just are not open at all. It seems that on neighbor islands many of the restaurants attached to hotels are not open, either. For example, Red Salt in Poipu is closed until the hotel is scheduled to reopen in Oct.

It's good to see there are few permanent closings on Maui. I hope that doesn't change!

Especially sorry to see Da Kitchen on Maui on the list. Good Hawaiian food, large portions, and at reasonable prices. And we would usually stop there for lunch after arrival. The place was always overflowing with customers, many of whom may have been locals. Hopefully they make a comeback.

Best regards.

Mike

It's been interesting here North of Los Angeles to see how restaurants, which cannot have inside dining, have adapted with outdoor dining. In the parking lots, patios, wherever they can put some tables up they've done so. Last night the restaurants were packed, all outdoors. I'd imagine as much as possible the restaurants will do the same in Hawaii, if for no other or better reason than people may feel safer eating outside.

I was thinking the same thing. I used to go there for lunch when I had to go over to Maui for work.

There are more restaurants closed on Kauai than are on the list. The Lana'i in the Kukui'ula Shopping Center, and the Garden Island Grill in Koloa Town are closed. I think there are a couple on the North Shore as well.

I don't see many Maui restaurants on the list, but I know that a lot are closed because we have friends who live there. Expensive restaurants are remaining open. That is an indication of which people can afford to go out to eat.

I keep checking on some of our favorite Maui restaurants. So far the expensive ones like Gannon's, are still closed. It's the smaller, less expensive ones that seem to be open. I've only been checking the Kihei, Wailea area though.
