We tried one of the new electric egg cookers. After use, the tray that holds the eggs as they cook is coated with cooked egg white that just doesn't want to come off. The instructions, and everyone's advice website, says "wash with hot soapy water" but that doesn't do it, soaking doesn't help, Brillo pads will work but look like a 20-minute job. Scraping with thumbnail works best, but that's gonna get old fast.

Who has one and has actual experience with cleaning the plastic egg tray?

I put mine in the dishwasher. Not sure what brand you have.

Also, are you poking a pin in the larger side and putting that side face up? Again, not sure what brand/model you have but I have not experienced the same challenges as you.

I have bought 2 trays in the past and had the same experience and they went into the trash. I do have one right now that does a better job in staying clean so it is almost trial and error and this may be a non-stick surface.

Ryan, it's this Bella egg cooker, and I was talking about the tray where you empty the egg into the poaching cup.

[It's on sale at Lowe's for $5.38 -- maybe I'll just buy a few spares!]

Since my last, I tried vinegar and Krud Kutter, and scraped with the edge of a tablespoon. Only the scraping helped.

Well after the scraping, I put it in the dishwasher and it came out OK, but I had already scraped 90% of the mess off. I'll try the dishwasher first next time.
