Hello All,

We're traveling and I have logged on infrequently. Sorry if someone else has already posted this. While channel surfing on the radio a couple of days ago, I heard Clark Howard advise a caller to check TUG before buying/selling a timeshare.

I wish that I could have heard the entire call. I'm glad that I caught the reference. I know that he has had some negative things to say about timeshares in general.

Kathleen,

That is good to know. All I have ever heard Clark say is the negative on timeshares. He is a self-admitted "cheapo" and would probably never buy a timeshare. But buying a timeshare the "regular" way through the front door does not make much economic sense. I realize that many of us here on TUG made this very mistake before finding TUG.

With that said, Clark has probably come around at least a little bit. He touts buying a car with a few years on it, the resale market. So why not buy a timeshare the same way? Makes perfect sense to me.

Suze Orman had a call in in to her show a couple of month back about someone wanting to spend $100,000 on a Canadian Timeshare. It was on her "Can I Afford It" segment. While the couple could afford it with what their financial situation was, she still advised against a timeshare. She didn't refer them to the resale market which would have allowed them to probably get the same timeshare for a fraction of the cost. Vacations in general are considered a luxury for most, so in a financial sense anything you pay for lavish vacations is not money well saved.
