We have owned two weeks at Church Street Inn for about 12-13 years. It was only "truly" renovated within the last 5+ years, and that was done
in a piecemeal fashion by doing a few units at a time. During the last hurricane that went near Charleston about 2 years ago, they realized
that there was structural damage to the building from water coming in from the balconies due to a lot of heavy rain, and
it did cause issues. The repairs of many walls has now been completed as of
early this year, and that is now resolved.
That consisted of repairs only, not renovation, as the renovation to the units had already been completed.
To my knowledge there is no further renovation ongoing, needed, or being considered.
Following the storm damage, the resort still had about 1/3 of the units in good working order, ie, no structural damage, and owners continued to stay there
except for the first few weeks---- and that only to assess any and all problems.
They soon reopened many units and began to fix the damages in the others, and slowly the repaired walls, etc were done
and more units opened as they were fixed.
At the present time, all units are open and being occupied.
The resort was very "tired" and outdated prior to the damage and in need of renovation, but we stayed there all along, and it was fine.
It wasn't great but it was comfortable and clean, and the staff was awesome. It was the fantastic location that was the reason it remained a favorite spot.
Then after the unit renovations, it was great......I wouldn't say it was luxurious, but it was certainly a very nice improvement, with all new furnishings and fixtures,
and new paint from top to bottom. Now we like the new and more modern decor, and we love staying there.
See CSI photos below.
If you see an old photo with drab dated furniture pieces, that's NOT what is there now......
What's there now in every unit, and in the lobby, is the newer modern stuff as shown in the other pics.
The whole place is "new and improved".
We are thrilled to own there, as the small but amazing staff continues to be a huge asset. We know them all by name and they know us.
Except for about 3-4 units, all are 1 Bedroom, but the 1BR units all have 1 1/2 bathrooms, so that is a huge plus. The 2BRs have 2 full bathrooms.
We have no desires to stay anywhere else in Charleston because there are only 2-3 hotels with an equivalent great location,
and each of those is far more expensive......$450-$800 per night at best.
Hey, a very nice 1BR townhouse with 1 1/2 bathrooms in the heart of the historic district and adjacent to the City Market,
with a 10 minute walk to at least a dozen of the very best restaurants, is very good reason to get excited to be in Charleston.
[BTW, the 2-level units start on the second level-------the lobby & lounge room & door to the beautiful fountain & patio (ample seating--see photos)
are all on the ground level; living room/sofa/TV & half bath & full kitchen are on the second level (the unit's bottom floor); and bedroom & closet & bathroom are on the 3rd level.
Views are either to the City Market on street below, or to Church St which has shops, or to the gorgeous private patio. All views are nice, and we have no real preference.]
We love it as much as we love Hilton Head's Grande Ocean and our other ownership weeks in Marriott.
Each time we're headed to Church Street Inn we are excited. BTW, we took another couple recently and got them another unit, and we had a blast,
and they loved it. We had also given them the use of a 2-night weekend a few months prior, and I'm convinced they love it as much as we do.
We're already looking to go back with them in December.
We have two ownership weeks, but one option is splitting each week into TWO 2-night weekends, and that is what we do each year......stay 4 weekends.
and we adore doing that. Those are wonderful getaways, filled with awesome dining and plenty of shopping.
We're 1 1/2 blocks from the origination for the horse & carriage tours, and we do that often.
Because of the extreme heat & humidity in summer, we elect to go in March, October, November, and December (for the Christmas season experience), and we adore it.
Spring and Fall are ideal, summer not so much.
