some Timbers owner have received a letter stating that the owner (Bluegreen) of the golf courses and ski hills and two other unnamed buildings no longer wants to run them. They wish to transfer the ownership to the Timbers association, which is one of the five associations at Christmas mountain. There will be a vote on dec 20. If one third oppose it will not go through. Then the amenities will be shut down.
Christmas mountain started in the seventies with a ski hill, later became a mixture of homes, timeshares and campsites, and then added nine holes of golf. we first visited in mid eighties when there were 18 holes, and lots of timeshares. Then in late nineties they added another nine holes. Timeshares and homes line the golf course.
This is rather shocking to me, as a homeowner and a golfer, that the course and ski hills might be shut down. Last summer, a good amount of money was put into them after a few years of neglect. All advertising boasts golf and skiing. Home values are also dependent on the amenities.
One thing to mention is that Bluegreen owns 80 percent of the timbers. Interesting that they presented this to one association and not to the entire POA of five associations.
Many of the timbers owners are in the rental business and do not feel the closure will hurt their business. It will certainly be a different resort.
Appreciate hearing Tuggers thoughts on this issue.
