I loved the Henry and Beezus books ... and Ramona, too. No big life lesson there, just hours of amusement.

I liked Curious George.

If you are talking about really little, Jordan loved the Hungry Caterpillar.

And we had a book of alphabet poems that we read together frequently. I do not remember the name of it. It was great for teaching letters and their sounds in a fun way.

For bedtime reading, every night we read Goodnight Moon. Jordan did not like to go to sleep. I consulted with a child psychologist who recommended that we do EXACTLY the same routine every night. It worked wonders. Within weeks he would go to bed with no problem if we did exactly the same thing every night. And Goodnight Moon was the book.

My daughter, Jordan, will not go to bed at night until I read her The Thing-a-ma-jigger is coming today, Dr Seuss book.

She loves the rhyming in the book. :)

I also have all the Disney princess books that I read through on any given night.

we love all of the Robert Munsch books. As said above, "love you forever" is fantastic and we give it to all expectant parents. The other Munsch books are all crazy funny. You can get many audio versions with the author reading them and he is a great story teller.

Good nite moon by Margaret wise brown is a classic for the very young.

We also like the "little bear" books by Else Holmelund Minarik pictures by Maurice Sendak

A Fish out of Water - by Helen Palmer (Mrs. Dr. Seuss) I can't count the number of times I checked this out of the school library when I was in elementary school.

My Father's Dragon - by Ruth Stiles Gannett
Elmer and the Dragon
The Dragons of Blueland

I found out about this trilogy after my son was born and we all loved them. I read them aloud every night after dinner in the family room and when I was done my son wanted me to read them again at bedtime.

The Dumb Bunnies - by Dave Pilkey (the Captain Underpants author)

I read these to my niece in the early 90's and she loved them. Years later when my son and I were in the library I saw the first book in the series and we sat in a chair and I read it to him. He was about 4 and he was laughing so hard the whole library was looking at us. Everyone was smiling or laughing as well because his laugh was so joyous as all children's laughs are. :)

I put a copy of I Love You Forever in the wishing well at the baby showers I attend, and The Giving Tree is one of my favorites also!

Anything by Dav Pilkey (correct spelling) is great. Another favorite author of mine and DD's is Denys Cazet. He has a short series of books: Never Spit On Your Shoes, Are There Any Questions?, and Never Poke A Squid. These are set in a first grade classroom and DD and I re-read them many times in her early elementary years. Hard to find them now but you can get them on Amazon through independent sellers. Cazet has another more popular series, the Minnie and Moo books, but we never read them.

Love You Forever is one our family favorites. I'll never forget the time one of the kids asked my dad to read it. My Dad was not one to show a lot of emotion, but he started crying as he read the book. He looked at me and said, "You should have warned me."

Dr. Seuss was always popular in our house. My daughter's favorite was Winnie The Pooh, in the original by AA Milne, not the later Disney books.

We also had a number of Berenstain Bears books, and I was sad to see Jan Berenstain passed away recently.

Love Is A Handful Of Honey

Love Is A Handful Of Honey

Author: Giles Andreae
Illustrator: Vanessa Cabban

Big, beautiful, glowing illustrations depict the many ways that love can be demonstrated in everyday life. In this sweet book, a young bear spends a fun-filled day discovering that love is all around him.

It is the pictures that really make this book come alive. It richly portrays bears, (baby mice) rabbits, bees, and skunks enjoying the friendship of their companions and family in a pure, uncomplicated way.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims

Just finished reading One Little,
Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims.

Its a story about Pilgrim and Wam-pa-no-ag life and the
three day feast that we know as the first Thanksgiving.

By B. G. Hennessy
Illustrated by Lynne Cravath

Ten little Pilgrims and ten little Wampanoag boys and girls are getting ready for the harvest feast. In colonial Plymouth, the young Pilgrims hunt ducks and geese and dig up turnips and carrots. In a nearby village, the Wampanoag children dig for clams, fish for cod, and gather nuts and berries. Finally, it's time for the meal. Turkey, cornbread, cranberry stuffing, pumpkin, and Indian pudding are all on the menu-yum! First, everyone gives thanks, and then it's time to eat and celebrate. The autumn-colored illustrations are just right for sharing the history and fun of Thanksgiving with young children.
