Very new to the timeshare trading business. We have two back to back weeks this summer with Saturday check in times. First stay is Lawai beach resort. Have not booked airfare yet but it looks like we can get a much cheaper flight from the east coast coming in and out on a Sunday. How hard is it to check in a day later at your resort? Do you end up with the worst room available. Just wondering what peoples experiences have been like when checking a day later. Thank you.

We're owners at LBR not traders. To my knowledge you probably would/will get a choice that relates to the fact that you will be one of the last to check in for Saturday arrivals. I don't know if the 1st come 1st served is every ignored. It doesn't hurt to call in advance and put in a request, and to call the day of check in (Sat)to see what may be done. Always be very pleasant and friendly since you have no "rights" other than to a unit anywhere in the resort. You will be counting on someone to do something irregular on the basis of "liking you" alone.

If you are checking in on a Sunday you'll probably avoid the traffic jam on the way to Lawai Beach. Construction going on that will eventually give us a four lane highway in and out of Lihue.

But if you are going to rush hour be patient as the traffic can be bumper to bumper and crawling along.

Aloha,
Be sure to let the resort know if you are checking in a day late. On the bright side, you can check in as early in the day as you wish. On the down side, you are likely assigned a room that no one else requested - most likely in the Coral building. Whether that is a problem is a matter of expectations. One advantage of TUG membership is you can read all the reviews.
OTOH, if an owner was unable to make the trip and only informed the resort after late Saturday night after everyone else has checked in, you might get the best room in the house (for more on that story, check the review we posted Date Of Visit - Dec 15, 2001 / Date Of Review - Jan 13, 2002 - BTW the rental was an RCI exchange w/ gift certificate; because of risk of RCI cancelling a reservation subsequently rented, I would never do that again)
