Checking in on a Monday, impact to assigned room?

Currently scheduled to check in on a Monday at marriott Maui Lahaina and Napili villas, however, our official check-in date is the previous day. Now, we could fly in on that Sunday but the change fee is $250.

Will checking in Sunday give us a chance for a better room location? By checking in on Monday by default get us assigned the last villa for Sunday check ins? Spending $300 ($250 for airfare change fee + $50 additional car rental) seems a lot to add one day, but we'd consider it if our view or floor has chance to be better than if we checked in on Monday. Although an extra day there and in Maui would be really nice

We are exchanging in via II, And are not Marriott owners

I would decide if an extra day in Maui is worth $300. If it is, then change your tickets.

I wouldn't pay $300 solely for the chance of getting a better room assignment. It is very likely you'll be disappointed. The Marriotts in Hawaii seem to be giving II exchangers rooms on the lower floors. I used to get much higher rooms (especially at Ko'Olina) and the past 2 years they seem very reluctant to put an II exchanger above the 4th or 5th floor. Last stay I was on the 5th floor (Ko'Olina) and the front desk acted like they were doing me a huge favor. I am a Marriott owner (not in Hawaii) and also have platinum status with Marriott rewards,

It might be a good idea to call the front desk and let them know you'll be a day late. Ask them to hold the room for you and not give you a leftover room on Monday.

Good luck! You'll love your stay there!

Room placement is a good question. Do you think Marriott secretly designates a check-in day for each unit? It seems like the best way to control the inventory. For instance, at Harborside at Atlantis, buildings are set up to be either Fri, Sat or Sun check-in's.

They say they allocate rooms proportionately across all check-in days, according to the different days allowed in the specific Weeks resort calendars. Of course DC Points usage introduces different variables but I think they still make an effort to do it as fairly as possible.

The only problem I see with checking in on a later day is that you're at the mercy of the folks who check in ahead of you and maybe get moved after complaining. If you're slated for a high floor, for example, and somebody else complains loudly enough about their low floor placement, they might switch your placements just to pacify the complainer. But that's been known to happen even when all owners/guests show up on their scheduled check-in days, if any of the earlier arrivals are complainers.

I agree and would add that it would be well worth it. With nearly 12 hours of round-trip travel, 7 nights isn't enough, and 6 even worse. Make the change and enjoy your trip that much more!

A few years ago I had an exchange to KoOlina and arrived very late at night on my assigned check in day. I did wind up with one of the worst rooms, ground floor with view of a wall and no cell phone service that they did offer to move me the next day.

I don't think it would make a difference. You're arriving on Monday, but someone there for a week is checking out on a Monday. People that came for just a weekend are leaving. Look at it this way....you might get the best room someone who had paid cash for a weekend just vacated.

I agree. No way to figure if it helps or hurts your room assignment for any specific stay. I am pretty sure it averages out over the year and there is no advantage or disadvantage statistically.

We have a view (3rd floor)overlooking the Napili villas 2 floor parking garage for mainly self park (complimentary) to avoid the $19/day valet fee. There is some valet spots in the garage where they double park the cars. It's too small for the Napili villas but we have gotten lucky so far and haven't had to park far away by the Lahaina villas.

2 bedroom nonlockput is absolutely fabulous. No complaints at all.
