Fortunately someone tipped me off to check my confirmation to see if my itinerary for St. Martin had changed, and I did, and it did. There it was, waiting for me to confirm. I'm spoiled by AirTran and SW sending me email updates for this.

Heck, you'd better check any airline reservation you have on any carrier. The majority of my reservations have changed since making them. NWA won't even assign seats until shortly before the flight. I assume that's because people would get upset with equipement changes, flight changes, et....that would force seat assignment changes.

We've booked a cruise to the W. Med departing from BCN. For the first time I've added an air package onto the cost of the cruise. All because I would need to book 250 to 331 days out to get the flight times, seats and price I wanted only to have the airline change it to something that wouldn't work somewhere down the road. I would think that oversea's flights would tend to be affected more than others by the airlines consolidation practices.

Check your reservations every couple of months for changes. As it stands now, if you book in advance you can almost guarentee that something will change that you need to keep your eye on. It's hit or miss that the airline will actually notify you. So far, only United has notified us that our flights had changed. Everyone else I've found on random checks.

Completely agree !!! Our flights to St. Lucia through PR were changed 3 times by AA without any notification. The last change was unaceptable since we would be arriving after 9:00 PM instead of about 2:00 PM per our original reservation. We called to change and we are now going through Miami and then to the bigger airport in St. Lucia which is about 1 hour from Windjammer Landing but it gets in at 3:00 PM ( I hope they don't change that) We are now renting a car for 1 day and dropping it off at Viggie airport for about the same cost as a taxi. :crash:

I'm flying US Air as well at T-giving. My flights have changed three times...lost a non stop and had what they called a "mis-connect" The new connecting flight was arriving after the connection. I only know this because I am paranoid and check Kayak and my flight confirmation constantly. I did ask in the last phone call-why it takes me being proactive vs them notifying me and the explanation was that flight changes occur constantly even if just a few minutes here or there-not worth it to rile up passengers over every little thing-when you get down to a month or so before departure they will notify you.

IMHO, my changes were not "little" and I am glad I am on top of it. Still holding out hope that I will even have flights come November. In the current climate, it's best to keep on top of things yourself.

My long range reservations change continually, mostly by a few minutes or so. As an Elite member, I do get notices if it is a significant change. The airlines I fly (DL and AA) will send an email or phone message if you tell them to by using the notification part of their website.

Be aware however, you can get inundated with messages. I was once returning from the Left Coast and was already aboard a delayed flight. Every 15 minutes for about an hour, I got a phone call that the flight was delayed.:D

Cheers

I have flights booked on AA, US Air, and NW. My US Airways flight has changed 3 times, with a connection time of 5 minutes between flights. I have all my flight info on an index card, and check all the itineraries every couple of days for changes.

I have contact information with every carrier we fly. Sometimes we get notified, most of the time we don't. For us it's very much hit or miss.
