We booked a Thu-Thu exchange at MVO right before Thanksgiving.

Our kids will miss school the following week, so we are not flying out until Fri after school - leaving us with a late Friday check-in.

Does the scheduled check-in day factor into room placement at MVO?

We just returned from a week (Sun-Sun with generic AC) at Grand Colorado (GP8). The property has three buildings and check-in day determines which building you are in. Buildings 1 & 2 Saturday check-in; building 3 Sunday check-in.

My older daughter had soccer tryouts on Sunday, so we didn't make it to GP until Monday afternoon. By the time we arrived, there was only one room left in building 3 and it was not awesome - smaller layout, looked directly into the building across from it, no windows (only two patio doors), and almost no natural lighting.

Lesson learned!

Could I face a similiar fate at MVO in November?

As far as I know, checkin date doesn't have any bearing on room location at Oceana Palms. There really isn't a terrible villa location at Oceana Palms. The south facing ocean view units will face the Amrit building monstrosity, but you can still see the ocean from any of the rooms. North facing ocean view is better because there is only a smallish condo building that is set back from the water. So better views to the north. Oceanfront is fine no matter what.

All floors with villas are above the lower floor parking garage. I think villas start on floor 7, perhaps 8 in Sunrise Tower. So there won't be any palm trees blocking any views.

We love Oceana Palms . We reserved an ocean front for our recent stay. This was the first time we had the “middle” oceanfront, as opposed to the north or south corner. Well, it’s a great view, especially since we were on the 19th floor, but you get zero iPhone cell phone reception, again zero cell phone reception. Good Wi-Fi, but zero cell phone reception. By the way, did I mention you get zero cell phone reception? :doh:The location of the room is simply surrounded by cement and metal. That’s tough when you’re there for 12 days. I would have to go to the back of the building by the elevators to make phone calls. DH just didn’t make any cell phone calls unless we were at the beach.🤣

Typically we have been asking for North corner, oceanfront, or northside ocean view. We always have asked for the sunrise building and they’ve given it to us, and we have checked in on various days of the week.

So, my recommendation would be to ask for the sunrise building northside if you’re doing Ocean view. If you’re doing oceanfront, north corner. If you’re there in the winter, South side would be preferable if you’d like to sit on the veranda,, but you’re facing the Amrit building.

Have you had cell phone issues in the past while staying in the Sunrise Building?

Do you know if the Sunset Building also has cell phone reception issues?

I suspect the issue must be that all the cell phone towers are to the west. Since those center units only face east they can't pick up a signal in the room or on the balcony? If so, Sunset should be fine as there are no units situated like those OF center in Sunrise.
