I'm weighing the benefits of renting versus owning and wondered where I might be able to find weeks for rent that would be about the same price as maintenance fees?

I currently own 3 weeks and am thinking I might sell one or two and just rent as needed. When I bought my dd was in school and we needed peak vacation weeks. Now I can be much more flexible so renting seems like it might be an option, if I can get to go where I want at the right price. Any input from those of you who have tried this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If they have what you want and you can deal with their overly-complicated certificate system, you won't find anything cheaper than skyauction.com. Otherwise, check out the sites listed by the sticky, "Frequently mentioned resale and rental websites" at the top of this forum.

DAE have rental weeks and bonus weeks at very good prices (often cheaper than maintenance fees).

Thanks for the info

Thanks Keith for directing me to the sticky. That's a great list and will save me a ton of time searching back through the archives here, which I had started to do.

Thanks Carol for referring me to DAE which I hadn't heard of--I've been out of the loop for a while (just using my TS as destinations and not trading). I just checked out their site and it looks like you can join for free. So could I then search their rental inventory as a free member?

Yes, that's right. Given that you currently own TS you are eligible to register with DAE (if your TS's are acceptable to DAE) and it is free. You can then get access to their rental and bonus weeks.

Just called DAE

I just called DAE. I'm impressed. They answered immediately, live person, very polite and helpful. All three of my weeks are acceptable. Their system sounds so delightfully simple. No trading power formulas, all inventory searchable online, reserve first, then deposit. It doesn't get much better! Now the key point that remains is whether they'll have what I'm looking for--S. Cal Coastal, which I found a hard one when I was in RCI. Have you seen much availability at DAE?

Hopefully someone will jump in and give you a hand with this one. I have no knowledge of the area but here's a few bonus week examples for California.
Note that this search is in Australian dollars, I don't know if your price will be the same.

Thanks Carol

Those are all inland, in the Palm Springs area, but my goodness, you certainly can't beat that price, which I reckon is about US$270.

Thanks so much for this info. I'm definitely going to register and keep an eye on their inventory.
