But of course this comes along with the rumor that the annual fee will be increasing to $550.

Reading the FAQs - looks like other Chase cards offer a benefit or some sort:

  1. What DashPass benefits do I get as a Chase cardmember?

DoorDash customers are eligible for exclusive DashPass benefits when adding an eligible Chase credit card to their account. The specific benefits depend upon which Chase credit card is added to your account. Benefits only apply when using your eligible Chase credit card to pay for your DoorDash order.

  2. Benefits for Chase Sapphire Reserve and J.P.Morgan Reserve cardmembers

Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for at least 12 months (and a maximum of 24 months) after activation.

  3. Benefits for Chase Sapphire Preferred cardmembers

Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for at least 12 months (and a maximum of 24 months) after activation.

  4. Benefits for Chase Freedom and Slate cardmembers

    1. Free DashPass benefits on eligible orders for 3 months after activation, when the primary cardmember or an authorized user activates the benefit.

    2. After the first 3 months, the user will be auto-enrolled for the next 9 months in DashPass with a 50% discount applied to the then current membership rate.

    3. After the first 12 months, the user will be auto-enrolled into full price membership at the then current rate.

Personally, I have never used Door Dash. Any tuggers use this service regularly?

I dont think they deliver to our area. $550 increase is concerning if they don't do better than this.

We will drop down to 1 CSR card if this happens. 2% no fee cards are looking even better because they do not devalue and cost nothing. At least with Amex I can offset the fees with Amex offers. Chase offers are mostly duds.

There have been all kinds of bad news stories of these food delivery people, I will never use one of these but I suppose millenials love it.

Sampling food, stealing packages off porches, harrasing customers.

We don’t use Doordash, so would definitely consider dropping this card if the annual fee increases.

Best regards.

There was a news article a few months ago that a delivery guy ate some of the food before delivering his leftovers. YUCK.

My nephew (24yo) is living with us temporarily (we are the home of the family strays, lol. There's always someone living with us for one reason or another). Even though he is welcome to eat with us, he has fast food delivered to our house almost daily. He's getting ready to deploy later this month so I'm not going to take away this one simple pleasure, but it has been a real eye opener for me. According to my older "kids" he has a lot of company - the 20-somethings love Uber Eats and Doordash. I'm not sure if he eats so much fast food because he was raised by a mother who had food issues and was very controlling with her kid's diets, or if it's because he's going to be stuck on a ship for six months, but it is a nearly daily occurrence.

Btw, in case anyone is wondering, it's not my cooking ;) Other house guests have definitely take us up on the dining offer. This one only joins us if we are having pizza or kebabs from one of the local restaurants. To each his own I suppose.

The free meal deliveries have a nearly zero value to me. If CSR starts charging $550/year without any added value I'm out. The true net cost is $150 after the travel credit, and with an occasional lounge usage and some booking discounts it seems to work out but with a true cost of $250 it will change that calculation.

Just called Chase. They confirmed that fees will increase to $550 as of Apr 1 2020. DH and I both have anniversaries before that date so have about a year to decide. They said that downgrading one card to a no fee card (Freedom or 1.5x) or CSP at $95 is possible.

One of us can drop the CSR to a no fee card and add an authorized user to the existing CSR card at $75 to get the CSR travel benefits. This is a cheaper option than downgrading to a CS preferred alone.

I was already planning to dump my Citi Prestige this year prior to the annual fee. I believe my CSR renews in March so I will have one more year of the $450 fee. I might get the Ink Business Unlimited prior to cancelling the CSR next year.

Will dump CSR before my annual renewal in December.
I just paid it, and already took the $300 travel credit.
But the fee increase will clear out riff-raff, such as myself.
... or maybe just the smarter riff-raff.

Right now we pay for the primary and supplemental card with an out of pocket cost of $225 per year, after $300 rebate. $325 per year pushes us over and we will cancel before renewal at end of this year. We will use Costco Visa instead of CSR as Costco Visa offers 3 percent back for dining and travel. Now we need to figure out how to use or transfer out 200K URs.

Let us know how you do that. I have a large balance as well.

You could downgrade to the Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual) or the Ink Business Preferred (also $95) and transfer the points to one of those cards. Or burn them all as quickly as possible. I’ve got a large stash of UR points and Thank You points and it’s hard to burn because I still travel a lot for work.

I had been hoarding points for a trip and when I went to use them for airfare I could not "see" the flights that I wanted. I wound up buying our tickets with cash. Since we weren't traveling anytime soon that required flights, I started using the points on tours and other travel experiences. They are a good value when compared to cash prices. I am of the earn and burn philosophy when it comes to points because I've been through a couple of nasty devaluations. I used up the rest of my points by booking a couple of nights in a B&B to add on to a Hawaii week. My current balance is zero, but I'll have a few to work with once this months points post. I actually like using them this way. My brain perceives them as mad money and I love getting all of my "free" snorkel trips and bike tours.

What kind of Amex offers do you use? We haven't had an Amex in years but I was thinking of looking into one that has better lounge access than Priority Pass.

I'll miss combining points within Chase:

Say you have 60K CSR points worth $900 for travel.
You also have 40K Freedom points (worth $400)...
Add 'em to your CSR account, for a total of 100K.
You now have $1500 in travel. I'll miss that.

It seems like you are getting good value with your CSR. So maybe it is still worth the extra $100?

Amex offers are like the new Chase Offers but much better. They are coupons you clip when you log into the system. Last month we were able to get $15 off $30 of gas when we used our respective 3 family member AMEX cards. $45 off gas is a nice bonus. Sometimes they also have hotel offers or 10% off cell phone up to $20 or 10% off Lowes up to $100 savings (on the business card). The savings have paid more than the AF on the cards but offers are not as lucrative as a few years ago. We don't use our Amex for lounge access. We use the CSR for that.

We are still keeping one card because we like the travel emergency evacuation benefit and the priority pass lounge benefit. If we downgrade one CSR and pay $75 for an AU card the AU gets the same lounge and evacuation benefits but not the travel credits.

This will make room for my DH to get the Hilton Aspire Card so we have 2 free nights and all the goodies that come with that card.

When we were making alot of international trips, we bought a separate medical and evacuation only travel insurance every year with much higher limits. CSR has come through for me twice when I had to file a claim for trip cancellation. CSR sent me checks totaling more than $8K last year for a cancelled trip. I hate to let the CSR card go but without plans to do much international trips anymore, it is hard to fathom paying $325 per year. Most of our trips will be timeshare based which means payment of Marriott and Vistana MF using Marriott Amex, leaving CSR out of the picture.

I don't think we can justify this card anymore. $150 was acceptable(after travel credit), but now $250!! We've used the Priority pass twice. The airports we frequent don't seem to have the PP lounges. The primary rental car insurance was nice as was the purchase protection. But I think I can get those with the Costco Visa. I hope MF payments count as "travel".

The Costco Visa has many of the same benefits for dining and travel. The two things it doesn't have are primary rental insurance (however you can get that with most other chase card such as the $95 United card).

I am getting tired of the devaluations and the time it takes to stay on top of this. Just saw an article this morning that Marriott has been rebooking awards reservations and taking away more points even mid-stay. More to stay on top of. 2% no fee cards looking better and better, however, like @klcpa I do like to have the UR rewards for plane tickets and paying for activities.
