Changing dates for a Wyndham Points to DVC Exchange Reservation

We have a DVC reservation booked with Wyndham points we exchanged through RCI. My questions are:

1. We are thinking of moving the reservation to February, if there is availability. Can we do that?

2. The February reservation would require additional points to be exchanged. We have credit pool points as well as our 2016-17 allotment, but our use year begins 7/1. Are any of these points eligible to exchange?

You can't "move" an exchange, but you can cancel an exchange and have (some of) the points returned to your RCI account, and use those points to book a new exchange. The points returned depends on how close to the reservation you cancel, and whether or not you bought cancel protection.

[Note that I'm not sure you can buy cancel protection for an exchange via the Wyndham portal as you can in straight Weeks, but you might be able to.]

Once you are within 10 months of the start of your use year, those points are eligible for deposit to RCI. Pool credits are not. So, you could deposit additional points starting in September '15. You can also potentially rent points which, for a DVC exchange, could still be cost effective vs. renting from an owner.

If you opted for points protection, you can get 100% of the points refunded, subject to certain conditions.

If you opted NOT to take the points protection, you can still get some of the points back on a tiered basis depending on how far out from the check-in date you are.

I'm not sure if it's different with the Wyndham portal, but on the regular RCI site, if you cancel a reservation (with or without points protection), you may get some or all of the points back, but you completely lose the exchange fee. That may be a factor in your decision, as well.
