We have a 5-night MR certificate for category 1-5, good thru next March.

Would like to gift it to our son and his wife.

Looking for nice Cat 5 locations along US eastern seaboard suitable for vacation visit ... not just business travel. Something near ocean/beaches/water or interesting downtown/historic sites. Not interested in golf.

I found this one on my own, but only because we've stayed there. It's a good example of what I'm looking for.

Thanks ... Herb

DH & I both have the Marriott VISA and we used our certificates at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront for a long weekend a couple of years ago.

It's a great property in a fun location. Unfortunately it has just bumped to a category 6 with the changes that took effect on March 15!

However, there are still some category 5's in the Baltimore waterfront area.

I also see a Residence Inn and Springhill Suites near that location.

Would you include Florida in your search?

If so, there are a bunch on both the Atlantic and gulf side.

Baltimore Marriott Waterfront is now a cat 6.:annoyed: Thanks to a heads up by a Tugger on another thread I was able to book our cat1-5 visa certificate at this hotel on February 29 just before the higher category took effect on March 1st.:whoopie: It would have been a good choice. I think there is a nice cat 5 in Newport, Rhode Island but can't remember which brand it is.
Sorry, missed the comment on the other post.

Sawgrass Marriott...PGA golf and many historic waterfront sights. If you have any elite status tell them you are going too and they might upgrade them to a suite with kitchen, etc.

Grand Bohemian Orlando...I'm here today, love it, Concierge room open on weekends with hot food, upgraded from regular rate.

How about Toronto...in the entertainment district, this Residence Inn has bellboys, valet parking, suites, very nice decor

That looks fantastic! I don't recognize any of the airports listed on the hotel maps and transportation page. What is the closest major airport?

The largest of the ones listed would be Traverse City. TVC

Thanks!
I'll remember that when we use our category 5 certificates. It looks like a very nice place.

It has also recently been added in II. I used a bonus week for prime Leaf Peeping the last week of Sept. '12 for a 3 bedroom in the "Cottages" next to the main hotel. If you do an aerial view of the property you'll see them.

We used a Cat. 5 certificate last July. No upgrade for Platinum, it was a busy week and there was at least 1 wedding party. It was a nice room that faced the entry, not the lake. Had a wet bar and mini-fridge. I mentioned it was our anniversary so they surprised us with tea light candles, rose petals in bath and on bed with towels twisted in heart shaped kissing birds. Campagne. Aw-w-w. . .

Later in the week we looked in at the sales office of the Boyne resorts on the lobby level. Looked at how the rooms have main living area and lock-off bedrooms.

Every evening the resort provided s'mores fixings by a fire pit. We sat in the adirondack chairs and watched the sunset into the Bay. Also saw the fireworks from the lawn. Took our bikes with us. There is a 26 mile path from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. It is all downhill in some areas which means it's all uphill on the way back. We rode into Petoskey which is adorable. A must to eat at is the Twisted Olive. We drove to Harbor Springs which (30 years ago) was my first favorite "Up North" community. Full of charm. Drove to Legg's Inn (another must) via the Tunnel of Trees. Past Good Hart but don't forget to stop in the General Store.

On my wish list is taking the Ferry out of Charlevoix to Beaver Island.

We're using ours at the Courtyard in Niagara Falls.

I didn't know you could gift them. Is this the certificate you get yearly from the Marriott CC?

The OP said it was a 5 night certificate so this would be one from turning in MR points.

As far as gifting, you can make a reservation in your name and add your adult children on as a guest.
