I dug out an old thread that said that owners don't pay the daily resort fees but exchangers do. What about Getaway weeks, do we have to pay the daily resort fees? I think it's something like $28 per day, ouch.

Hopefully someone can answer definitively, but in my experience a resort doesn't know the difference between an exchange or a getaway purchased through the exchange company. They just know you booked in through the exchange company.

Any one have info on fees for the 3 resorts in Carlsbad? I’m trying to decide between them.

I went through the booking process for a Getaway week and it mentioned that the resort may have surcharges for energy and those fees will need to be paid directly to the resort. I don't mind paying for energy fees but I hate resort fees with a passion.

Getaway prices are really attractive even with adding on resort fees, but I’d like to know in advance and difference between $30/day and $50 could tip decision on where to stay.

Exactly. Hence my post. I would prefer not to pay. :)

I currently have booked at WM Oceanside for the same period and looking to cancel one of the WM weeks to check out Carlsbad Seapointe. I stayed there like 20 years ago and have fond memories of the resort.

@klpca Do you know? Thanks!
Unfortunately don't know. I know that owners staying on an exchange don't pay the resort fees, but I have had to ask them to adjust it manually. I'm happy to call them tomorrow and ask.

I had the same experience when staying on a GPX bonus week, I had to show I was an owner to get the fee removed.

Did you have to show your card? I have no idea where mine are. When we asked to have ours removed they were able to look up our membership in their system.

Same, they looked me up on their system. I had a resale from eBay so never really had a card.

I booked 2 getaway weeks at Carlsbad inn for next summer and I just looked at my interval confirmation email. This is what is written on confirmation pertaining to fees

Important Advisements

Fee Advisements
Security deposits may be required. The amount and form of payment varies by resort and/or season, e.g. Spring Break.
Required surcharges (energy, accommodations/occupancy tax, bed tax, fees or other miscellaneous) service charges, telephone connection fees, long distance phone charges, personal charges, and applicable amenities usage, and housekeeping fees are the responsibility of the occupant and are payable directly to the resort. Fees and surcharges are subject to change without notice.
Resort parking is typically limited to one car per unit. A parking fee may be charged. Some resorts may have no on-site parking, requiring the use of an alternate off-site facility at an additional fee. Prior arrangements must be made for parking trailers, boats, motorcycles or any type of recreational vehicle (may not have on-site).

Doesn’t say anything about resort fees unless I’m reading it wrong. I would think if I was going to be charged $28.00 a day a disclaimer would have popped up before I booked or at least on confirmation email.

I know. That's the verbiage that I got when I went through the booking process The "surcharges" word got me looking at TUG as well as the internet, and it looks like there may be a $28 per day fee.

So I have some news, Mark with interval confirmed there will be a resort fee of $30 a night. He apologized for it not being transparent during booking. He sent me over my updated confirmations indicating the charge.

I’ve included a screen shot showing resort charge

I honestly hate resort fees as much as the next guy but at least you get something at these resorts. I know that they have beach toys/wagons and possibly bikes too. And Seapointe has pickleball courts. Small consolation, I know, but at least therr is a possibility to get something in return.

The resort fees is a deal breaker for us. My plan was to cancel one week out of a month's stay at Worldmark Oceanside and book a getaway at Carlsbad Seapoint. The difference in real cost would have been about $300, which is not much. But when I add on resort fees, I am now looking at $510. All of a sudden, it is looking expensive and I guess we will have to stick to Worldmark.
