Being told if I sell my TS to a buyer (a Mexican company) I need to pay the Hacienda 19% of the sale price to cover the capital gains tax. Buyer will reimburse me for this payment. Advise, comments?

I'm sure I read somewhere that this was a scam, but can't recall where.
Hold off paying anything until you've verified that this is legit, which I doubt.

received an email from Mexican IRS = Hacienda advising I'd need to wire payment to Hacienda to cover capital gains payment to Mexico. Trying to validate this now.

It's a scam. There is no 'Capital Gains' tax on resales in Mexico. Unless you are selling it for more than you paid for it, there are zero capital gains anyway.

If any Mexican gov't entity needs to contact you force them to use USPS. Then at least you can hang Mail Fraud charges on them, but don't expect to hear more from them.

Stop trying. There is nothing to validate. The more communication on your part only sets the hook deeper. Swim away while you can, lol.

Don't wire anything as they only want to reach into your wallet and STEAL your money.

If they are legit they will sell your week, deduct their 19% and send you the proceeds. Believe me, they are NOT legit so that ain't happening!

This is a scam.

@caboman
No! No! No! You do not need to send money to anyone in Mexico for capital gains taxes. It’s a total scam, and you were very wise to question it, and post your doubts here on TUG! Good on you! 👏

@caboman This is one of the oldest and most common timeshare scams. Just google “Mexican timeshare scam” and see how much comes up.
