I have a week reserved at the Canyon Villas using a Starwood week I had in II. I see II has some availability in Kierland Villas for the same May 8-15 week. Which would you chose? We have stayed at Kierland it was lovely but never at the Canyon Villas.

Also would my Marriott Vacation Club level mean anything if I am going in with a Starwood exchange?

Try Canyon Villas. It is a lovely resort. And your MVCI elite level would apply to you even on an II exchange. It might get you a better villa assignment. Your Marriott Rewards status would also fully apply.

We've stayed numerous times at Kierland, which is one our home resorts. Stayed at Desert Oasis once and we were unhappy with their parking situation- seemed to have less parking spaces and access to our villa was convoluted. We love the convenience of Kierland- with the shuttle over to the hotel, Kierland Commons and Scottsdale Quarter and proximity to Safeway. We're also extremely fond of the Kierland activities- especially their wine tasting event and wine dinner.

Although we have never stayed at Kierland, we really enjoy Canyon Villas. Access to the lazy river and pools at the JW Marriott across the street is a big bonus. You can also charge meals at the restaurants at the JW and earn MR points. The Golf Course restaurant and Roy's are excellent, and often have great happy hours and early dining specials.

I've stayed at both, and much preferred my Canyon Villas unit and layout of the resort itself, especially the pools. However, the nearby dining options were much better at Kierland IMHO.

Kierland is a much nicer resort and interior unit than Canyon. I've stayed at both several times, own at Kierland, and the only advantage is the pool access at the nearby JW (the Westin just isn't as comprehensive). If you want the nicest unit to stay in, go to Kierland. If you want nicer restaurants and shops nearby, go to Kierland. I'll likely stay at Canyon again in future, but it's not my first choice in the Scottsdale area.

Wow what mixed reviews!!

How far is the JW from the Canyon Villas? Is there a shuttle?

As far as being recognized for being Presidential level in MVCI or Platinum in Marriott Rewards I have not found that either matters when you check in. I have a thread about this right now. I checked into the Fairways and was told there would be a surprise for me. In the room was a note from someone on staff welcoming me to the resort.

The JW is less than a quarter mile away -- a very easy walk (unless its 110). There is a shuttle between the two properties every half hour.

I'm asking because we all have a problem with mobility. Where does one go to meet the shuttle?

I agree status does not matter much in MVCI. The distance to the JW is not far. Maybe 10 minute walk depending on speed.

The walk is ok somewhat through the parking lots. We found the shuttles worked well. After using the lazy river we were tired and it was hot and not much shade when walking.

We thought the lazy river was great! Temperature, speed, length was perfect. We were not crowded and frequently hardly anyone else there.

We ended up using every day of the week and thoroughly enjoyed the pool area. Canyon Villas pools were also nice but the lazy river gave us an activity.

Another highlight is a new trainer was hired and she was wonderful. My wife did multiple classes daily with her. Pilates, stretch, etc. I did a personal training session and felt she was better then Lifetime.

We just drove from Canyon Villas to JW when we do not feel like waiting for the shuttles or walking. :) Free parking over there...

You pick up the shuttle in front of the lobby. It drops you off at the JW lobby (where you do to return).

Well, you probably WERE surprised, although albeit unpleasantly!
