We are trying to put together a 4-5 night trip to Canyon Villas for anytime next late winter through spring.

My wife would like to be there when there are people, not during a dead season. I know March is booming, but my chances of getting that trade are limited. I am wondering what your thoughts are about the last week of April. I can get trades and/or discounted rooms during this time, and it works with our schedule.

Is this a busy time or a fairly quiet period? Are any activities limited during this time?

Thanks

Have no fear -- Canyon Villas will be at capacity in late April. It will be filled with the throngs of platinum week owners who were unable to get reservations in March (during Spring Training).

One nice feature of Canyon Villas for me is the use of the pools at the hotel. Below are the dates that the hotel pool is closed to CV guests in 2015. I'm assuming these are fairly consistent year to year but I'm not sure. If so you should be ok all but one day in the last week of April.

Closure dates for 2015
February 28th
March 1st
March 8th – March 10th April 2nd – April 5th
April 12th – April 15th
April 25th
May 23rd – May 24th
June 27th – June 28th
July 3rd – July 5th September 5th – September 6th

We are CV plat owners and we go every March. We have also been twice in April and once in May. April and May are definitely not dead times. It's lovely weather there at the end of April so you shouldn't worry at all.

I think End of April will be too warm at Canyon Villas. temps may be in the 90's. I would tell you that November is a great time to visit using points or exchanges. I booked a getaway last week for the first week of November. I got the second week of November last year as a getaway. I also did a trade up last year. Used my MCV studio to get a one bedroom. Used the eTrade feature with II to retrade into a two bedroom at the 60 day ahead mark.

November is a great time to visit Phoenix. You get fall baseball, Mexican Art Fair at Heard Museum, golf discounts. The point cost in November is 1/3 less than Spring.

And, The MCV Board of directors meeting is the second week of November.

It's all a matter of perspective. For those of us from the upper Midwest, experiencing 90 degree weather in April is a glorious thing!

Personally, I think April is a perfect time to go to Phoenix. In March, it's not uncommon to experience cool days, where sitting poolside in a wet swimsuit can be a little chilly. In mid- to late-April, your pretty much guaranteed weather in the mid- to upper-80s and lower 90s.

We also own at Canyon Villas and typically visit in late April or in October. We golf and the green fees start to drop about the 2nd week of April . Late April is a great time - and its quite busy. The pool areas at Canyon Villas and over at the JW will be busy and so are restaurants in the area. The cactus are blooming and its warm but not scorching. We love that time of year.

Thanks for the input. I did get a 2BR for the last week in April. I bought the E-Plus retrade option as a backup. Being from Houston, I am not worried at all about the weather. A 90 degrees high with low humidity seems heavenly right now.

Same for those of us in New England - April can be pretty dismal here!

I have an AC now that has Phoenix on the grid in April, which kind of surprised me. Right now I'm just seeing studios with it at MCV (and some other resorts) in April, but may put in an OGS for a larger unit at MCV or WKV. But since it's a solo trip I may just take one of those studios. I've stayed in one before and with the balcony it was just fine.
