I am at the Royal Mayan and today the sea is rough and it has taken a LOT OF SAND BACK OUT..the rocks are exposed again. We have never seen so much sand taken in one day as this. Hope it calms down soon. They are pumping the sand back in and going out as fast as it comes in. Not a good day in Cancun!!!! will report again later this week. Here for another 10 days.

Are they pumping sand on the Royal Mayan Beach already?

It was my understanding the current phase of the project had the sand pumping stop at the Royal Islander and is moving from the Islander down to club Med.
The next phase of the beach restoration project was to be the beach from the Islander to the Sands.

link to beach guesstimate

I have found this link from cancuncare.com about the a rough guesstimate as they call it based on who things are going right now. Thought those of us going in the future may like to follow it:

http://www.afterwilma.info/cancun-hotel-zone/beach-update/

It is such a shame how the beach is there one day and then exposes the rocks the next just beacause of rough sea. I am assuming after the beach repair this doesn't happen anymore??? Is this correct or is this just how it is?

Where's Royal Sands on list?

I checked out the link and couldn't find the Royal Sands on the list. Tell me I either missed it or it was accidentally left off.

They wouldn't add beach everywhere else and just leave the Sands out would they?
:(

Jeff, you are right the pumping is toward Club med rather than at the Royals. I am only talking about the beach right in front on the Mayan. When we arrived on Monday there were no rock exposed. Yesterday the beach is full of rocks again. They said it is because this is from the East and when it changes to the West or North. it will come back. Just interesting to watch what mother nature does.

The link says:

"13 - 19 March Le Meridien Resort & Spa
Golden Crown Paradise
Ritz Carlton Cancún
20 - 26 March Barcelo Tucancun"

I think the Sands falls in there somewhere. Not every hotel in the zone is listed and this is a guesstimate that we will be revising on an almost daily basis as progress continues.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Jim.

We rented our week 8 (2/26/06-3/4/06) out this year - before the hurricane happened. It looks like the beach won't be restored until about a month after our week. I was hoping the beach would be ready for the renters, but I guess not.

I hope they have a good time anyway. I feel really bad that the beautiful beach won't be there for them to enjoy.

I know I sounded a little paranoid in my earlier post. Thanks for keeping us all updated. :)
