Cancellation Question

We have a reservation at the Great Smokies Lodge with a check-in date of 8/24 to use our bonus points before they expire. My husband's employer is requiring anyone who travels to Tennessee to self-quarantine upon returning home so we will probably be canceling. We did not purchase Points Protection so we need to cancel 15 days before arrival. I do not think Tennessee's numbers will improve enough before 8/24 to make it worthwhile to purchase the Points Protection now. This is the first time we have had to cancel. Could someone please confirm that 8/9/20 is the last day that I can cancel and have my points returned. I would hate to be off by one day and loose all of my points. Thank you.

Yes, until midnight on 8/9. But if you are sure you want to cancel I would attempt it before the call line closes in case something goes wrong in the cancelling process. To determine the last cancellation date - on a calendar go back 2 weeks plus one day and that is the last date.

You can purchase points protection up to 15 days prior, just like canceling. You just have to call in to do it. I'm not really sure if they will extend their grace period until the day before any longer. That big sale tells me that they just might be over it. If you can use your bonus points later then points protection is worth it.
