If you cancel your exchanged week with II do you lose your week or just your exchange fee? Is it worth paying the extra insurance with II when you do an exchange?

You lose your exchange fee.

If you are within 7 days of check-in, you cannot cancel.

A week canceled within 60 days gets a flex-change deposit back - it can only be used 60 days from check-in.

I have never bought insurance and may start, because my DH's boss canceled his vacation 10 days before we were supposed to leave for Hawaii, and I got a flex-change and lost my Starwood priority with II.

If I get a trade, can I cancel it?
A.
• Yes, but only within 24 hours, and only by telephone. The 24 hour cancellation period starts from the time of confirmation and you must call during II’s business hours to cancel a confirmed exchange. If you have selected regular mail as your choice of notification for confirmations, you must change that to email in order for the cancellation period to apply. (Note: all trades made within 7 days of check-in basically can not be cancelled)

I don't think the insurance is as good as RCI. It will cover some of the cost if the reason you cancelled is covered. Changing your mind or for non medical reasons was not covered in our case. One of our daughters decided to get married the week we had an exchange with insurance and it didn't cover it, got a replacement week, but it look a long time to get it back in our account, had to fill out papers, get them approved, etc. I decided that I wouldn't buy their insurance again. I would suggest that if you want to consider purchasing insurance that you call them up and talk to them about it and have a copy of the policy sent to you for review.

I don't think the insurance is as good as RCI. .

Which doesnt matter if he is in II. And the RCI insurance has changed over the years.
Some time ago, we had to cancel with II - we always buy the insurance with our elderly parents -- and they refunded us the cash for VALUE of the week, which was more than the MF and exchange fee. This happened two times.

That may have changed, but they were were nice about it - there is a form to fill out (of course) and if a medical conern, you need the doctor to fill out quite an extensive form, which is a nuisance.

II's insurance company TravelGuard is a ripoff. I bought it, had a medical situation and called to inquire about how the filing of a claim works...and they went ahead and filed a claim for me without me asking for it...and then they proceeded to cancel the week which I'd found a friend to use. TravelGuard denied cancelling it, and II denied it...but somebody did...and it wasn't me 'cause I had found friends to go (rather than me try to track down doctors at a hospital to complete their nuisance forms). I'd never do business with them again.
