My wife and I decided to cancel one of our trips to Maui this year due to the Coronavirus. We would rather bank the points (81K) for next year without penalty (more than 60 days out). Especially since we have another reservation scheduled for the end of July. I have never seen so many aspects of life impacted by a virus. I know that we may be overly cautious but we prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to traveling and the affect it will have on our well-being and the lives of people we my interact with directly and/or indirectly. Anyway our caution may benefit a someone who wants to travel to Maui in May. I will release the unit @ 8PM EST. to give my fellow tuggers an opportunity to read this message.

I wish everyone the best during this challenging time.

You’re not alone. I canceled a big trip to Australia and Hawaii in April/May, which included a week at Westin Nanea.

just posted this on a similar thread.

IMO, it's not about the current status at the location, it's about considering whether you trust that all the other systems you rely on will be in place to get you there, keep you safe while you are there and get you home in a timely matter.

I totally agree with you. We are due to be in Cancun next weekend and may be cancelling too. Even though Mexico is the safer choice right now. More worried about what could awry in the US while we are gone and can’t get home. Too much chaos going on. Unfortunately its only going to get worse here in the next couple weeks.

why do you think you are safer at home? We are currently in Cancun but soon we will be back home. My kids will start school, both me and my wife will interact with a hell lot more people at home than here.

I am also thinking... what will happen in next couple of years with all the banked Options? Probably the availability will suck, we will all end up in Orlando. Just a thought, I am not saying this should be the deciding factor.

Apparently you didn’t read my post correctly I said Mexico IS safer than being at home. Maybe too many margaritas? :)

I’m concerned about the US changing their stance and having issues coming home, it’s not US traveling, it’s international. They could close borders at any time to contain. Believe me I would love to be in Mexico for a couple weeks, but not much longer than that. :) We are going to Nanea at the end of May too and looking forward to that!

How can you say that to a fellow TUGger? It must actually be the beer :)

We spent 3 weeks during February in Australia - Melbourne and Tasmania. We had a wonderful time and glad we went.

I’ll be there in April, Covid-19 be damned!

You might just want to check how things are before you go. Things are changing almost minute to minute. Last I heard Maui County was closing all public restrooms, and I read somewhere else where some public beaches on the islands (not Maui as far as I could tell) were closing public beaches as well.

We did not notice any issues when we were on Maui, except that Honolulu Cookie Company stopped giving out samples in their stores, but by the time we left on March 12 things were starting to change. We got out of there, and out of San Francisco, just before things really tightened up.

Check out the Hawaii Forum. They are requesting no visits from Mainland for 30 days. If you are late April you may be okay.

My AA flights were cancelled, so forced to cancel. I’m of the opinion that nothing will ever be the same after this virus resolves.

We decided to cancel our Maui trip that was scheduled for late July. We just banked 229100 points and will not be traveling at all this year. We rather wait 12 months and hope for a vaccine and/or another viable solution to this horrible virus. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
