Does anyone have any feedback on how long it is taking the cancelled reservations to fall back into the system? For either points discount or upgrade purpose?

Anywhere from NOT at all to 3 days, although 1 day seems to be an average. It is often hard to tell if something even came back unless you watch it like a hawk. If there are no other units and you plan on going, I would in no way attempt it. Only attempt trying if you don't care you can't get it back.

I had one very recent example of a cancellation returning to inventory the next day (details in Upgrades - 60 Days or Two Months?). I am quite certain it was my cancellation because the canceled unit is relatively rare. Beyond that, I have nothing to add to the body of lore about cancellations and when/if they reappear in inventory.

My nagging question is more about what happens during the day. Specifically, if I search for a reservation at 6 AM and don't find it, should I continue searching that same day? Since May 2017 when Voyager kicked in, I don't think I've seen a unit available later in the day that wasn't there at 6 AM. Some say they have and I don't doubt them. I just haven't seen it myself. It makes a lot of difference in how much time I spend on the Wyndham website.

I had to shorten a trip for April 2021 and thought I would have to stalk the unit to see when it returned. It came back immediately.

My experience has been that new units become available throughout the entire day. I've seen units in the late morning, afternoon, and evening that weren't there earlier that same day.

Just yesterday I found a unit that I wanted at 9PM that wasn't there at noon. That one is for next week though, so I don't know if things work differently in the different booking windows. Either way, I haven't been able to discern any pattern.

Does calling in make a difference as opposed to doing it yourself online?

NO, they use the same system we do.

I've had to call in more than once to do something that I should have been able to do myself online but couldn't. Based on that I feel that it is not the exact same system.

The new so called Cancel and rebook is a moving target just as Wyndham intended. They have done this to eliminate mega renters from abusing the system and it also eliminates their competition. Its a matter of time before they put the squeeze on a few more that are gaming the system. I know from past experience that they can change the rules to gain control of rentals, trading of deeds and with Ovations the free resale market that has been available. The system changes make it alot harder to game the system but with new rules come other opportunities. Strategies can be changed to use the new rules to your particular advantage.

I think cancel and rebook has been a moving target since voyager. Maybe more so now, I'm not sure. Seems like such a weird time now, hard factoring in the new system with the covid restrictions / cancellations, etc. I contend that was the plan. I did have a few mid-afternoon upgrades that surprised me. My guess is that is a batch program, I would not have expected it to process during the day. I don't know how it's working, just guessing. I do finds things throughout the day. I've not seen a pattern (I'm sure that makes Wyndham happy). Overall, very disappointed with the slowness and lack of detail with this 2020 system. Painful to watch 3 reservations at a time load, and then have to view to see much of the detail needed (you can't even tell the room type at times unless you view details).

Something I never got the chance to solve. When you cancel now you know the room number so you can see if what comes back is the same room number? Or is availability no longer backed by room numbers. I only briefly saw the new system a few years ago but could not book.

No longer backed by room number, whatsoever. Not like we used to be be able to reserve (and see come back).

On a positive note, the delay in returning units to inventory make it easier to book and cancel intervening units to get the upgrade you're looking for. No doubt an unintended consequence of "fixing" the cancel & rebook loophole, but a reality of running a complex system is that fixing one opens up a different one that might not have been anticipated.

The club is intended for personal use and when this particular loophole becomes abused by mega renters it also will be closed.

I booked four 1BR Suites at Ocean Walk the other day, upgraded them all to 2BR Deluxe in an attempt to get the 2BR Deluxe units out of the way so I could upgrade to a 2BR Lock Off. Never made it so I canceled the four 2BR Deluxe units, scrolling three at a time through about 25 reservations four times.

You are absolutely correct. Lack of a pattern, lack of predictability about returns is what killed cancel-and-rebook. Prior to Voyager, the time to return changed occasionally. Most often, it was twenty seconds but there were times when it was about two minutes. We figured it out after a couple of nervous tries and adjusted. No más.

Not sure how many 2 BR Deluxes there are there, but I booked five the other day and got to the Lockoff. You might have been helping, but I was doing it inside the VIPG 45-day upgrade window. I didn’t have to tie up the extra points for the upgraded 1 BR Suites while I was doing it because canceling the 2 BRs didn’t result in them returning to inventory; I could book the upgraded unit, cancel it, rebook, etc., until I got what I was there for. That was what I was getting at. It didn’t make much difference because the point cost was low to start out with anyway, but might in other spots.

I booked some the other day where I thought there wouldn't be too many in the way, after 11 or 12 I didn't seem to be able to exhaust them (only me). They were for a reservation 5 or 6 days out.
