Unlike Marriott, it does not seem that HGVC would allow you to trade your booked home week. I have 12600 points Platinum 2BR at the Grand Waikikian. Would it be of any benefit to book my home week in the peak season? With Marriott you can get more value through exchange. Thanks

No, it doesn't work that way. If you don't book then you will have 12600 pts available to book anywhere during club season.

Thanks. With Marriott your exchange rate wit Interval depends on the week you have booked. I wish HGVC allows this in the future.

So if you manage to score a more desirable week, you get a better exchange than someone who grabs a less desirable week?

Yes. I have done this with Marriott. I understand the RCI exchange rules, but HGVC does not work with Interval. For example, if I am Platinum with Marriott and I book the busiest week at my Home resort, then the exchange would yield a more desirable resort as well. Unfortunately for HGVC it’s only points.

In HGVC it is already included with the number of points you are allotted for your deed. The number of points in the HGVC system is based upon your Home Week which is either platinum, gold, silver, or bronze.

You can get anything RCI has for way less points than your home week is worth.
This is true. Was able to grab a 1 br at Disney world for next month for 3400 points. For me, this is an incredible exchange.

Between this and the free penthouse upgrade and 5 nights in penthouse ocean front at Lagoon, I couldn't be happier with HGVC.

With the AI bookings, the system works perfectly for me. It may not last forever but I'll enjoy it while I can.

Vacation Village, Wyndham, WorldMark, Vistana, Vidanta, Flora Farms, HGVC Max, and some independents
I've seen in other threads that you can deposit a booked HGVC week with independent exchanges like SFX, which has an agreement with HGVC. I don't think I would due that with the week mentioned by OP. On the other hand, there are other independent exchanges that might be worth exploring, in particular ThirdHome is one that can get you very good exchanges into vacation homes or other high-end TS. I have been using them with some other TS I own (Vistana, Vidanta, and WorldMark) and have started seeing some HGVC ones show up in the availability. They don't have an affiliation with HGVC so you wind up having to get a guest certificate when someone takes your deposit, but that isn't much of an issue for a home week.

Bottom line - what others have posted in this thread is absolutely right for using exchanges directly affiliated with HGVC (i.e., RCI or the HGVC system itself), but things can work differently with others like SFX and ThirdHome.
