Can you specify week in II with Marriott deposits?

Hi All - for Westin/Sheraton deposits into II, it seems like you get a blended or fixed trading power (ie. you don't deposit a specific week).

For Marriott, is this the same? Or are you able to deposit the best week you can book within your season?

Thanks!

With Marriott, you get to choose the week you deposit. So reserve the best week possible and deposit early for maximum trading power.

It is not the same. With Marriott you book and deposit a specific week within your season. There is an option to let Marriott pick a week for you- but I would not recommend doing that as they may pick a good week or a bad week and its out of your control.

This is all going to change next year though. Marriott will start only giving Marriott owners a placeholder deposit and not even deposit Marriott weeks into II. Since Marriott will start controlling the deposits, they may just give II Welk stuff instead. IN addition to that, like with points exchanges MVC weeks owners won't be able to exchange into Marriott resorts anymore.

Obviously this was all a bunch of salesman BS we heard at a MVC owner update yesterday.

How can they stop you from reserving a week to occupy, and then depositing that specific week in interval? (That’s the way I’ve been doing it for years.)

Vistana doesn't do it that way. You deposit your week interest, so to speak, and they deposit a random season week (or at least give you the trading power of it), but they don't resort to depositing Welk stuff like Jeremy wants to happen.

lol.

I can believe @dioxide45 heard that from a salesman yesterday.

Unfortunately, I can also believe that this may be reality in a few years.

For a long time Vistana owners did things the way Marriott owners do today. I don't remember when they changed it, probably 10 or more years ago now. Vistana owners are simply provided with a deposit placeholder that has a blended trade power. Vistana then controls what Vistana weeks get deposited. Marriott could very well go the same way.

Where the BS meter went high during the, so called, sales pitch I was in when they suggested Marriott may just deposit the "Welk stuff". That was only mentioned when I started to poke holes in the entire thing. The sales rep knew things were over and the entire thing went downhill from there.

If II wasn't formally the MVC weeks exchange platform I can see that they could go the same way as Vistana, but I can't see how they can do that with how things are set up now.
I also can't see how it would help them manage inventory better or make more money by changing, unless its to sell more by fulfilling sales lies.
They already own so much inventory and have the ability to move stuff around between the exchanges that they can fix issues that arise across their responsibilities.

Last month a sales person was shocked I was able to trade back into my home resort (I traded into a better season) because I'm not supposed to be able to trade back into Marriott properties through II! His supervisor was equally as shocked when the sales person told him. Talk about gas lighting.

But II is also formally the Vistana weeks exchange program for voluntary owners and VSN owners can exchange their weeks in II just like MVC owners can. I really don't see where this is any significant difference between MVC and Vistana.
