Posts: 7 A few months ago, a RCI VC told me that any resort listed in the Extra Vacations for under $500 could be claimed to fill an exchange search. I have not tried to make any claims but will if something is appealing. For that matter why stop at $500? Guess RCI is trying to appease unhappy members......they should try harder.

Joan,

As a general rule, Extra Vacations priced over $500 are not surplus exchange inventory. They may represent acquired inventory or units being offered in connection with non-exchange transactions such as cruise exchanges or Points Partner transactions. Only exchange inventory is accessible for one-for-one exchanges.

So, with regard to the original question, if I see an Extra Vacation for $494 (or anything less than $500) that does not come up when I do an exchange search, can I call RCI and take that Extra Vacation as an exchange? If that's true, I was unaware it was an option.

Cindy,

If you see an Extra Vacation priced under $500 that you cannot access for exchange, it may not actually be part of our exchange inventory. The $500 price point is a guide, but it is not an absolute. The unit still may represent a non-exchange transaction. However, it could also mean that there is a VEP difference between the deposited resort you're using to search for an exchange and your first timeshare resort (our website uses the first four digits of your RCI ID number to compare VEP for Extra Vacations).

When this happens, please send an e-mail to feedback@rci.com with TUG in the subject line. The Communications Team can tell you for sure what's happening.

No, I read that you cannot exchange for Extra Vacations, regardless of the price.
Michelle,

I've given you the wrong impression. Exchange inventory includes units for which we have surplus availability. These are certainly available for exchange -- they are just historically in such great supply that many go unused.

The distinction I was trying to make above was between this surplus and the units we offer to offset the costs of non-exchange products like cruise exchanges. These are usually offered at higher rates and are not considered to be part of our exchange inventory. However, these are all offered together in Extra Vacations.

RCI takes my deposited week and did not tell me I could have used my Bonus Weeks!
