Can Phone reps change out 2026 borrowed points with 2025 if I free up the earlier ones by canceling a reservation?

I'm thinking of putting in a 2025 week request for April. That would be filled by borrowing 2026 points.

I have a Feb 2025 week that I may cancel. If the week in April was filled and I cancel the Feb vacation week, can the agents on the 800 line or chat swap the the 2025 points and send the 2026 back to the bank to chill for the year?

Or should I just cancel Feb 2025 week and use those 2025 points for the April 2025 waitlist request?

They can…they likely will place you on hold and have somebody else do it, but it’s certainly doable.

Just know that your 2026 borrowed points will still retain their "borrowed" status; meaning you cannot bank or otherwise transfer them.

Once cancelled, I have not found that to be the case.

The rule is that when points are borrowed from a future use year, they lose any and all ability to be banked or otherwise transferred outside of your account. They will retain the original expiration date and can be used for any reservations up until they expire, regardless of whether or not that reservation is during the original use year or during the borrowed year. It is clearly spelled out in the FAQ.

Just FYI - here is the quote from the FAQ: "If an Owner were to cancel a vacation for which they borrowed Club Points, the borrowed Club Points would be returned to their original Use Year and expire at the end of that Use Year."

I know what that FAQ says. I am telling you I have done this more than once, and in practice, they have gone back to their original use year unfettered.

Well, have you ever tried to bank them? Yes, they do indeed go back to the original use year; but then they will expire at the end of that use year, unable to be banked if you don't use them.

Yes I have banked them. On more than one occasion. Hence my use of the word unfettered.

You’re a lucky guy. That’s not how it’s supposed to work.
Agree…it’s contra to the written rules.

When returned to original Use Year, it has been my experience they have never been segregated as “Previously Borrowed”, or anything similar. They seem to just go back into their original bucket, so I can only assume since it’s not programmed to keep them segregated, the official written rule cannot actually be applied to them.

But it is how it actually works. Like @Fasttr, I've done it many times. Cancelled borrowed points go back to being original Use Year points with all the abilities thereof.

I can only read the rules. If you’ve been able to bank previously borrowed points, then that is great for you but appears to be either a glitch in the system or an error in how the FAQ is written. I don’t know.

Happy ignorance on my part. I never knew that I wasn't supposed to be able to and that's just the way the points have always worked.
