A friend of mine is considering purchasing a re-sale non-points TS at Marriott's MOC. Once he joins II will he be able to trade that unit for other desitinations?

thanks!

If he buys from anyone but Marriott, his week will not be eligible for enrollment in the DC. He will need to utilize II for his exchanges.

what is "DC"

DC or "Destination Club" is Marriott's internal points based TS exchange system. It allows weeks owners at most but not all Marriott TS Resorts to enroll weeks that are eligible (those purchased from Marriott or Resale weeks purchased before June 2010) to be exchanged for points and then those points can be used to book weeks given up for points by other owners.

So a resale week purchased now will only be able to be exchanged thru the Interval International TS exchange system.

All my Marriott weeks are at resorts outside the DC system and so must be exchanged thru the Interval International and I do not see this as a problem.

I have a friend that bought a resale MOC week recently as well. He now has an II account and can trade for anything in the system.

I bought three weeks in secondary market and am having excellent results with exchanges via Interval International.
I traded Grande Vista Platinum for Desert Springs, traded Thanksgiving 2011 Canyon Villas for Feb 2012 so I get two consecutive weeks, And I traded a Feb 2012 (the last purchase came with a week) for Spain Playa De Andaluza.

It is important to reassure buyers that secondary weeks are still good to trade. The big pressure from Marriott sales rep is that you must by points or else you will be stuck with a week that cannot reserve or trade.

Remember enough points for a platinum week cost $25,000 to $35,000 and a secondary market platinum might be $2,000 (Manor Club) to $10,000. I paid $7,000 each for Canyon Villas Platinum.

Do not let your friend get pressured into points.

Yes and it works very well for that purpose. Re-read 4Reliefnow above as it is good information.
