We got a confirmation for Dec 28 - Jan 4th, exchanged through II.
The confirmation says unit E12 (1st floor). I called and the girl said that II exchanges cannot be changed in any way. I thought I had read somewhere here that we could request a higher floor, etc...

They can and do change the unit #s. But I would wait until you're closer to your stay -- maybe three or four weeks out then request a unit on the east side of the resort (A, B, or C units).

Of course you can always ask but be happy that you even got to come to Hyatt because it is a hard product to trade into because of its high quality.

Personally I would only call 7 days or less in advance.

Hyatt this year is doing many II trades.

Thickey, would you mind telling me when you put in for this exchange and what you used? I have a request first in with my week 52 Disney Beach Club lock off and was hoping to get anything in the keys. Ufortunately Disney will not allow you to exchange directly with II.

Helen4,

You might have a little trouble with the Hyatt since both Beach House and Windward Point are 2 bdrms and only Sunset Harbour has 1bdrms and studios and they are in high demand even by the Hyatt owners. II are a little size conscious so I doubt your studio lockoff would pull a 2bdrm outside flex change.

If you are interested in Key West, there has been some well priced auction on ebay recently and that woudl be a viable option since it is currently bronze or silver season which are a bit slower. If you can rent out your disney unit, you can probably do that more successfully.

I was able to snag a Hyatt Beach House with my Island Park Village 1brm 2 years ago and again this year for Oct 5-12 but they were only about 60 days out and in the flex change time frame.

Thickey,

The II confirmation specified unit is not guaranteed. I choose week 40 since that is the one which showed unit F24 which is one of the ocean front units over another week that worked slightly better for me. When I called a few days before, I was told I was trumped by an owner of that unit for a different week. I asked if it would be possible to get a unit and they gave me F12 instead.

I checked with II and they said that the unit is not guaranteed. Hyatt said that the unit is assigned closer to checkin and they refused to give me what unit I would be in since "it can change".
