Can I place an ongoing search and then change to a deposit later?

How much "trade power" does this it lose? I was thinking about not depositing the unit until I see what comes up first and if does not give us desirable trades (we are splitting the unit) after about a week, we would deposit it. What are the recent rules regarding loss of trade power.

Also how successful are people recently with seeing a trade on a manual search, then depositing it and seeing it again. (the benefit would be a possible bonus week) Thanks!

Absolutely. You can place a Request First Ongoing Request and then later deposit the week. Trade power does diminish over time on an undeposited unit. It has been said, a long time ago, that those drops really don't start to happen until about 6 months before checkin.

I have never had a request first search and then deposited the unit. I don't know if you have to first cancel your request in order to deposit the unit and then place your request again, or if you can deposit while the search is still in progress.

You would have to cancel your request first and then if you still wanted that search to set up a new one as a deposit first.

If you know you aren't going to use your week, you might as well deposit it right away. There really is no evidence that II is more likely to match you because they want your deposit vs they already have your deposit so why should they bother.

The only reason to do the request first is if you think you would rather use or rent out your week if you don't get the match you are looking for by a specific date.

I think the OP is hoping perhaps II will offer an AC for deposit where they are not offing it now. This is one reason to hold off on depositing a unit and using Request First. Though these ACs, which are pretty flexible, come at a fairly steep price to book a unit because they use a tiered pricing structure.

This is correct!...I also would like the option to rent if I do not see anything desirable. My other concern was that if I do a request first, see what I want, then deposit it, will I see the same thing? This trip I am unfortunately not very flexible on, so if it doesn't work, I may need to rent. If I does work and I am able to obtain an AC, that would be great. I agree with you though regarding the pricing structure.

You don't need to deposit it before you search again. You can search Instant Exchange inventory without depositing the week. If you see what you want, you confirm the exchange in the same transaction. II will still confirm your deposit. However, if you have a request first exchange open, you can still manually search Instant Exchange inventory.
